Got a question for the group.
I recently completed headgasket/Rhoades lifter/timingchain & gear job on my 2004 DII
Everything seems like it went OK but haven't test drove it yet.
While sitting in the garage idling I thought it was getting a little hot underneath and am having doubts about the CATS.
I bought the truck with a blown headgasket so I never really drove the truck or ran it for any long periods.

First question:
Should I take it for a spin and see if possibly I need to clear out left over coolant from the CATs?
Or should I assume that the CATs are done for?

Second question:
Being this is my forth landy and I've save a few parts, including a complete front pipe from a 97 DI, any chance that would fit on the 04?

Third question:
When doing my headgaskets was there something else I should have looked at?
I changed the following:
Headgaskets (both heads checked for warpage & magnifluxed)
Valve seals & hand lapped valves
Changed lifters to Rhoades lifters.
Timing chain & gears
Oil pressure switch
Water pump
Spark plugs & wires
T-stat
Lower coolant hose
Flush oil change (twice)
Serp belt
Clutch fan

Thanks for the answers.

The throttlebody heater came with the gasket set, changed that too.

Definitely just drive it. I wouldn't be concerned unless the converters are glowing red. I would have also changed the two small plastic hoses that go to the expansion tank. They get very brittle and can break easily.

Did the plastic hoses too....
Putting plates on it today and will test drive.

Thanks for the response !

Given with the fact that my 95 SWB has a Y-pipe with cats from a 2003 D2 (needed to weld smaller bungs for older-style O2 sensors and plug the after-cat ones), I'd say yes.

Definitely will bolt up to the manifold, but I can't remember how it bolts to the muffle.

For what it is worth:
I had a spare DII exhaust that I installed on my DI. The Y-pipe & muffler required a few modifications to work, including O2 bung size as mentioned. However, the rear pipe was a pain in the ass. I had to cut & weld about six segments to get it to fit around & over the axle, & between the frame, fuel tank, & body. But it works well & looks good.
