So, probably a stupid question, and I haven’t decided to do this , however if you somehow by chance were going to delete ur catalytic converters, how would you do it? Where no engine light is on, everything is dandy, how would you guys do it? Thanks.

I would start here. Add these to the downstream and see what they read. Then I would clog them. Then I would inject .2 volts into the ECU itself for downstream, but that might fail some test cycle. So extenders and clogging the downstream o2's..

BUT that'll NEVER get you past the emissions inspector with a mirror!

So knock a rod though them and clog the rear o2's.. No one is the wiser then..

I live somewhere with no tests, so that’s why it isn’t an issue for me. Thank you for your response, that helps a lot

Other then upsetting tweakers what gains are you expecting from this?
I'd like to know the results.

Still illegal to fuck with that. Some cop who knows a little could ruin your day. I would think thats a pretty big fine.
Why I suggested to ROD the cat.. It's actually VERY common with the Ricer Racers for more power..

Heck my Dad bought a new Z28 in the 80's, drove it home and knocked the cat out with less than 50 miles on it.

So its nothing new...

The D1's can actually have a resistor changed that turns it into an Australian Rover, which never came with Cat's or downstream O2's

Yes that true about the Austrailian market not running 2 sets of O2 sensors. I figured the easiest way to do that would be to get a prom from down there. But that in itself might be hard unless you knoww someone there. But to me that would be the way to do that, so its not molested with resistors pretending to be O2 sensors.
As far as hollowing the thing out. I would do this. Then I would tell the judge I think it must have come apart and blown out my tail pipe? We used to do that to oldsmobiles when I worked for them. On the cheap...Big cam, take .032 off the bottom of the rocker pedistals so the rocker doesnt hit. Hollow that cat out, turn the 1/2 accumulator over delete the spring and put the clip back in it. That will fix what ails your fathers oldsmobile. I can still hear it chirp 2nd every time.

The Resistor I'm talking about doesn't go across the 02's, it plugs into the ECU somewhere underneath the Dash.. The COLOR of the resistor 'chip' that looks like a Fuse changes the 'market' of the vehicle and the ECU programming. Now that I'm looking for this information, I'll NEVER find it..

Someone else talks about it here >

This is also another probable stupid question, but if I were to replace a bad catalytic converter, is the only option to buy a new ypipe? They are pretty expensive.

Yes Y pipe or an exhaust shop and slap replacements in for about the same price. I got a y pipe from Rock Auto..

once off I put compressed air in the OUT and listened on the inlets.. one side was clogged on mine, the side that was already replaced once before me..

Dude get an ELM 327 and Torque app.. You can see if your cats and 02 are working with it! And everything else..

Awesome I will look into it, thanks! Also that’s why I was thinking about doing a decat if it ended up being less expensive.

523-546$ I got Davico as that was all that was available for my 96.

Thank you, still trying to see if it is my 02 sensor or the cat, but based off of previous issues, I have a feeling it is the catalytic converter. I appreciate your help!

In a D2, you'll never get rid of SEL with hollowed or deleted cats. It can't be done easily on the GEMS D1, either, contrary to "resistor" comments (which is only valid for 14CUX trucks which don't know if there's a cat or not).

Yes, I may have mixed some of my reading on the Resistor on older 14cux trucks. But apparently EEPROM swaps or reprogramming ECU to Aus does the trick. However, reading on this more and what's been hashed on here before, apparently many people are spacing out the rear 02 on D2 with great success. YMMV

That makes ~$700 aftermarket Y-pipe a great solution in not-CARB-mandated locations, both cost- and legality-wise.

Ran mine without CATS for long while. Sounded great but always smelled of gas fumes. Fine for an off-road truck but if it's a daily driver I wouldn't do it.

Back in the day I had a 1.8T A4 with a catless downpipe. I installed two of these, one in the O2 bung and one screwed into it with the hole drilled a bit larger. Then the O2 was installed in that.

I swear I bought it that way........

Oddly enough, when someone liberated a converter on my 04 D2 and cut the O2 sensor wires, I drove home without a check engine light. I went with the Magnaflow Y pipe and noticed a nice gain in power. Of course, the stock converters had 150+K at the time.

Modern converters have come a long way. You won't gain much between straight and high flow cats. I suggest getting a Y pipe or having high-flows installed. My 04 has no issue with the Magnaflow converters and I installed 4 new Bosch O2 sensors at the same time.
