I've been to a CB shop that has a whole wall full of mounting gadgets. All the tube adapters are for diameters less than that of the RTE top horizontal tube.

As anyone mounted a CB on their RTE front bumper?

Right now Im using a magnetic job and it does fine, but would rather use a firestik antenna. Really dont want to put it on the spare tire carrier.

Shouldve had RTE weld on an antenna tab :banghead:

I've an ARB and I just used a standard tube mount. and drilled two holes in the tube, used one side of the mount only and mounted with self threading screws, works fine.

Just need to make sure the brakets earthed...

I have been told by my local communications shop that I shouldn't mount any antennas below the highest point of the vehicle. Has anyone heard this?

I have my digital booster antenna, my analogue, and my 2 way antenna mounted up on my roof rack and would prefer to mount one on my rear door spare tire holder and the other two on my fron fenders. The guys at the communications shop told me not to.

Has any one noticed a lack of range having antennas mounted below the roof line. Something about the ground plane and height...

Thanks, sorry to hijack.

I haven't heard anything from anyone on that but I have my antenna mounted on my rear bumper and my reception cuts in and out on the trail so there's probably some truth with that.

then again I have a Radio Shack antenna, so that might be the problem too.

Ive heard this as well. Basically the highest point above the vehicle is ideal. However, I was told that I would get better reception mounting the antenna on the front brush bar as opposed to the rear tire carrier as long as more than 2/3 of the antenna was not within 12" of metal???? The guy recommending this owned the CB shop and it was quite a shop.

I have a Firestick on the RTE front bumper (on RTE provided welded tab) and reception/broadcast is perfect.

SWR readings were better than expected - 1.2 and 1.4 on the extreme channels. I took a lot of time fussing with the Firestick adjustment screw to get it perfect.

Has anyone attached an antenna to the rear ladder (for those with them). It seems easier to go there then the rear tire carrier.

I just installed one on the bottom side of my rear ladder. Cable goes right through the rear door ( I drilled a little hole next to the rear license plate light w/ a bit of silicone) , into the rear door, through the rubber cable harness into the truck, under the carpet and onto the radio (which I had mounted on the side of the cubby before)
very factory looking in my opinion, and you can barely see the mount once it was painted black.
Its a quick release deal, so it's on and off in a flash...

Thanks Jamil, that looks like it will work perfectly.

BTW, great website you got there.

Thanks Cadaver.

You're also putting the antenna in the best place. I have mine on the spare carrier which has great reception, but here in New England we have a lot of trees and I've already snapped an antenna due to limited travek even with a spring on the mount. And you won't have to take apart the rear door which is a pain.
