Central locking not working

Does anyone know what causes the central locking to fail. The alarm arms but the lock actuator (either remote or key operated) doesn't lock any door. Is it the central control unit? I've checked the fuses etc. When I toggle the remote there's a click but the actuators don't function.
Anyone?

bad actuator in one of the locks. Not sure of the best way to isolate this, other than dig in and pull one at a time to see if the others work.

If none of the locks work when using the key or the remote, I'd say it's the drivers door actuator. What year RR do you have? I've got some RAVE CD's and I can send you a JPG of the actuator setup for your year.

I replaced all of the actuators with aftermarket units in my '88, and it was a breeze. The hardest part was pulling the door panels off. :)

I've got an '88 that could use some new actuators. How much did you pay for the aftermarkets?

I bought 2 master actuators (front driver/front passenger) and 2 slave actuators (rear driver/rear passenger) from Alarm Sellout. I paid about 41.00 delivered in August 04, but they've got them for about half off now. I noticed that they now sell a kit which includes the 2 master , 2 slave and a control module w/ wiring harness for $29.95, which is a killer deal , especially if your existing control module is shot.

Good luck!

Nick,

On your rover, you just have trouble opening the door from the inside right? If so, you can most likely just take off the door panel and adjust it from the inside.

Thanks

I appreciate the feedback. I did notice the driver's door actuator was a bit lazy earlier on, so I'm guessing it's gone bad. I'll check into the link and buy new ones all around, for that price. I've got a 95 SWB.
Thanks again, guys!

I've got a bad actuator in the drivers door of my '93 lwb -- has anyone had any luck retrofitting the above kit to a '93? The shop, Roverland 4x4 has the truck and I supplied them the kit, but they're saying it doesn't work -- any advice on what might need to be done to get this to work?

thanks,

Tony

ALL RRC classics have the most basic power locks ever. The Rear locks and tailgate have 2 wire solenoids that can be replaced by any generic power lock solenoid out there.

The fronts doors have a 5 wires. 2 of the wires are for the solenoid. the 3 wires are for the Unlock, lock and central switch built into the lock. So, when you unlock one of the 5 wire ones, the switch completes the circuit to tell the other ones to unlock. and vise virsa with the lock.

Again, many generic replcements out there.

Really, noone should ever have to use a OE one. They work like crap and cost too much.

Chris, thanks for the reply. The OE is a 5 pin, the new actuator is a 3 wire -- any idea how specifically to rewire these? Unfortunately I don't have either the truck or the new actuator nearby to provide wire colors . . .

thanks!

OK, I purchased the kit, took it over to the shop (I despise working on electrics) and, not so surprisingly, they could figure out how to wire up the 3 wire replacements to the 5 wire loom in front. I now have the kit mentioned above and a keyless remote kit for it. If anyone's interested in trying it themselves, I'll sell the whole thing for less than I paid.
