Certified?

I have a situation. I bought a 2003 Discovery 2 used in 2003 with 25k miles on it. It was considered a Land Rover Certified used vehicle, which I thought was nice because it extended the warranty period. I bought the truck with a safety devices roof rack on it. The thing is starting to rust. Will they warranty the rack? I bought it as part of the vehicle, so it is as if it were a factory installed rack. As a matter of fact I think that the dealership that I purchased the truck from installed the rack. If not I was thinking of sand (or media) blasting the thing and covering it with POR15. Help!!


Also I recently got steel wheels for it, and they balancing weights are falling off quick. Is this normal?

I think the LR Genuine sttuf from the dealer/factory is all covered under a warranty however I am not sure how long the period is. THat being said I think you would have a hard time convincing them to warranty for rust but it may be worth a try..

Can't comment on the rack, so I won't. As for the weights, they should not be flying off. I worked at a tire shop for a couple of years and to the best of my recollection we had something like five different types of weights (but there are more than that). I don't remember the "name" of the type for steel wheels but they most definitely SHOULD NOT be coming off. Having said that, some do come off due to whatever but they should stay on very well. As a matter of fact the steel wheel weights stay on better than almost any weights except for the stick on ones. If I had to guess I'd say the shop used the wrong type of weights. Take the truck back and tell them about it.

If it is minor surface rust then just touch up. If it is structural or bad then they should replace it. The warranty is 4 years 50k if installed at time of new vehicle sale, if any other time it is standard 12 months.

I got a couple warranteed. It took a visit from the regional rep but it went swimmingly.
