Changed Fuel filter, and still no preasure.

I just changed out my fuel filter and am having the same problem as before. My 98 D1 will start, but idle for about one or two minutes, then die out. I do have a battery that needs replacing, can that have something to do with it? And my next thing to check would be my fuel pump relay, if that was bad, wouldn't the pump just not work at all?

next thing i'd do is take it to a shop and ask them to run a fuel pressure test.. if low, swap out fuel pump. question though, when you start the car you should here a whine coming from your fuel tank. after a second or two does it go away or is the whining noise still there?
take care

I already had a preasure test and it came back with bad preasure. Also, I pulled the cover off the access panel in the load space and when it starts, I hear a wining noise from the pump, it doesn't seem to go away before it dies out. Constant noise all the way up until it starves from the lack of fuel.

Ahh the pleasure test.. :)

Why you think its fuel relay then, if you got pressure not up to the task? You obviously got bad fuel pump. Just rebuild old one or buy new one and your truck will be happier :) Either that or injectors leaking like seeve.

My brother was having fuel problems, but not at start up. He got a new exhaust, fuel filter, a bunch of hoses, even took all his injectors out and got them rebuilt and blueprinted (much cheaper than new ones. $200.00 for the whole set back in two days. compared with almost $200.00 a piece for new ones.) and still had the problem of fuel starvation around 4k rpm's. LR Knoxville said he was getting ample fuel pressure at the rail. Finally found a guy that works on Rovers exclusively and he set up a fuel pressure gauge on a hose, conected it to the fuel line after the fuel filter, brought it in to the back seat, and had his partner read it while driving down the road. Sure enough, around 4k rpm's the pressure was dropping to around 11 lbs. Not near enough. Out went the fuel pump and voila! Runs like it's new. Hope that helps you out.
