This makes me wanna puke.

A Texas school district has apologized for what some perceived as a racist chant from fans after one of its teams beat a rival in a high school basketball playoff game.
Alamo Heights High School, which is made up mostly of white students, beat Edison High, which is predominantly Hispanic, in the Region IV-4A championship in San Antonio on Saturday. As Alamo players celebrated the win on the court, a large group of students began cheering ?USA! USA!?

Alamo Heights head coach Andrew Brewer silenced the students as soon as he heard them, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

Alamo Heights Superintendent Kevin Brown said he has apologized to San Antonio Independent School District officials. As punishment, Alamo Heights students who were involved in the chanting will not be allowed to attend the team?s remaining state title games.

The San Antonio district on Tuesday also filed a complaint with the University Interscholastic League, the governing body of high school sports in the area.

I'm sure Knewsom will think these kids were acting in an abhorrent, jingoistic manner and should be punished.

Nobody has the right to make someone else upset. We need to pass more laws to make this kind of conduct illegal.

There's a difference between being patriotic and being dicks. These kids were being dicks. You guys shouldn't condone this either, it doesn't help your cause.

Nobody's saying anything about laws - this was at a school, and they have rules to help kids learn to not be dicks.

I don't see how they were being racist or dicks, or even patriotic. The teams were from school districts in the US (unless I misread it).
IMO the kids were just being dumbasses for not realizing that.
The students just need to be sent to remedial geography classes.

Agreed - last time I checked USA was not a race. As a matter-of-fact the United States of America has been called "the melting pot".

LOL.

That's my high school. My cousin's kid is their starting point guard.

Alamo Heights has been this way since the beginning of time. Until the civil rights era, the neighborhoods (tiny cities, actually) within the school district used to have charters that prohibited blacks, hispanics, and jews.

No rules are going to change the way things are in Alamo Heights. It's one of the most insular communities in Texas. Our parents went to this school, we went to this school, and most of our kids do/will go to this school. It's generations of group-think, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. You can't legislate this out of existence.

In the 60's, they did a bit of gerrymandering with our district lines and roped in an area of Section 8 housing to the north. It brought in a lot of minorities and introduced gangs into the school but those kids are still very segregated (socially) from the old money white kids that live by the school.

The school will probably have some mandatory assemblies, the principal will lecture everyone, and the kids will go home and laugh about it with their parents.
