03 D2 with a leak that I've been chasing since June and I think i've found it... maybe. Looks like its weeping where the front cover meets the block. its very slow but over time it'll add up. So i guess I'm looking at pulling the cover and resealing it. While I'm at i I'll do the timing chain and the oil pump. Its got over 200k miles and I'm thinking thats where the majority of my oil leaks are coming from.
I can get the Timing chain replacement kit and oil pump from Atlantic British. I've saw just a chain but not too keen on mixing old and new parts especially at this mileage. Any thing else I'd need other than what comes in these kits? Any other options for purchase besides AB?

If you are into that part of the engine, you might want to check the water pump and replace as needed.

The water pump is new probably less than 200 miles on it. Started leaking after I had it replaced.
Then the pump is even MORE suspect IMO.. "after I had it replaced", Yee have little faith in other people's work and shops here hate rovers and mess up stuff being lazy or out of spite.

There are also some hoses down there that could be leaking that didn't get sealed well when pump was changed. Before doing anything I would confirm where the leak is. Foot powder works well to help find small leaks.

I know where the leak is coming from and it's not the pump and I don't doubt the work of the shop. Its leaking where the front cover meets the block. All hoses are dry and have been checked multiple times.

After buying and returning two aftermarket timing chain kits, I purchased an original Land Rover kit. It was better but not finished as nice as the original 😕. There are no great replacements for the Thor motor.

I recently bought a timing chain kit for my 96. The gears were Total Chinese garbage. The chain was better , made in Mexico. Unfortunately it was no tighter than the one I had and was pretty loose. So I took it back off to investigate. The new gear on the cam had sheered off the cam lock into the cam when I had torqued it. My old gears looked fine and the chain was a USA Morse one so I kept what I had and bought a spare set of used gears to go with the chain in case I ever needed to replace one (I have 2 gems rovers). If it was my truck I’d reuse the gears or buy genuine if you still can. Lesson learned. Gordo

I was looking at Atlantic British and Lucky 8 Oil pump is 169 at AB and 105 at Lucky 8 and Timing is 119 at AB and 63 at Lucky 8, both of the timing kits have new gears and chains. I'm guessing that both of these should have everything I need and hopefully the quality is the same.

Where did you get the aftermarket kits? I'm looking at AB or Lucky 8

The lucky 8 kit is likely Chinese at that price. Mine was all makes gears and eurospare chain and was 73$ (gems not Bosch). Pretty sure the AB kit had a eurospare chain as if I recall it was made in Mexico per the reviews. Maybe the AB has better quality gears but the gears I got (pretty sure it was all makes) we’re garbage
