If you headliner is starting to sag and you dont feel like, or care enough, to replace it try this out...

First get some trim fasteners from the auto parts store, the kind that have teeth going in one direct. They come in many styles. You can paint them to match your interior if you want but I chose not to.

Next take a look at your shitty headliner and figure out where you should put the fasteners. To do this you the tip of your finger to hold up the headliner. You will find a sweet spot where one fastener will tighten up a large area. Then simply punch a hole in the headliner and stick the fastener in (make sure the hole is smaller than the diameter of the fastener s there is a tight fit). I did this on both sides to make it symmetrical and it looks pretty stock. It looks a lot better than the sag and if you ever want to recover it you still can.

Total cost, 2 bucks and 10 minutes.

Pull it out, scrape off foam, roll it with same color paint, allow to dry and reinstall.

You will be doing this $2 and 10 minute thing over and over...

I used to make some nice wood trim pieces that I used color matched screws to install, but it is so ridiculously easy to re skin them that I just pull them and do that now. The cost of doing it the right way is too low to post.

yea its only like 50 bucks to recover if you do it yourself, its more of a time investment... again this is for those who dont really care that much lol... If i were to remove the shell I wouldnt waste my time painting it, I'd just recover I've done it before in a D1 but decided to do a patch job for now on my d2, I'll recover it in the future once it gets really bad.

I'm tryin to post pics but theres a database error

My DI has a epoxy-bedliner type paint on the skins of the headliner. I bought it this way but it looks very nice and is durable.

Two kids with dirty hands, painted surface wipes clean. Besides I never have to fix a sagging headliner.

Got plenty of touch up paint left over, too!

Staple gun...I gotta check that out,

Instead of fasteners, staples, paint, or colored screws, most local auto upholstrey shops will repair a headliner for a couple of hundred bucks.

The cheap fuck way of painting it is the best way to do it. If you want to go to and have it redone just expect to have it sag again and again unless you never use your sunroofs and never open your windows. Just paint the dam thing it looks better!
