What's wrong with Kelty? They make really nice carriers. My kid has been all over the place in hers.

It's the Back Country. It is about a year old, so I think there is a new model that replaced the Back Country. The most important thing for me was to have a canopy over my kids head to protect her from the intense sun here in Seattle. :)

I like it, but more importantly, my kid loves it. It seems to be very comfortable for her. She can fall asleep in it while I'm hiking.

When I bought it, I asked Marc Olivares for his input since he does a hell of a lot more outdoor stuff than I do.

You said that it is comfortable for your kid, but how is it for you?

My legs wouldn't fit through the leg holes on mine.

But seriously, I think it depends on the kid too. I have two boys. The youngest is way more tolerant of the carrier than the oldest was. For them it was less a comfort issue and more of their personalities.

There's only one way to find out for sure....go for a hike and see how far you get.

I was kind of hoping Marc would chime in too. I think he used to have an old avatar with his kid in one. You said that it is comfortable for your kid, but how is it for you?

Marc told me a couple weeks ago his little one just grew out of a Kelty Kid Carrier. Not sure if it's the same one though...

hey Big Red, Ben is right, my little one just grew out of his kelty.
i'll sell it to you really cheap if your interested.
we have 2 kelty packs, and only one stuffer :)

Kelty makes the best kid carriers bar none.
the key is to not get one that has to much crap on it.
the SUV (biggest) versions are really just to heavy and cumbersome.
and the low end ones dont come w/ a rain and sun sheild.
you dont need one w/ a gator pack bladder. chances are you'll run out of energy long before you drink all that water... trust me on this one, my wife and i have logged tons of hours of hiking w/ kids on our backs. it's not like carring a dead load backpack. having a live load takes a whole lot more energy to maintain balance etc... it takes some getting used to, especially when they get a little older and move around a bunch more.

hope that helps, and let me know if you want one of my old packs.
i'll send you photos if you want.
