Yousef! What's up --hope all is well in CO. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with that DII. Hopefully I can make it out to the Rally.

Larry & Yousef: You do more wheeling in one season than 95% of this board will ever do. So don't bother getting worked up.

Nadim: I'm looking forward to the final result. I took a long look at the thread on the "other" board. Rig is looking outstanding. Congratulations.

I don't think so. Laterally they will have more grab, but the lugs on Boggers are scooped, too... I have run in trucks with both IROKS and Boggers, and in my opinion nothing grabs and pulls North-South on rocks more than Boggers do.

I'm sure you'll find your Iroks will get more traction in the rocks vs a Bogger......

Talk about hijacking Nadim's thread. Oh well he'll get used to it :D

Steven, I won't be messing with the DII. Thought about it, talked to Keith about it but decided not go forward with it. However, I'm building my own front and rear bumpers. Keith is hooking me up with steering links and diff guards and that's how far I'll go with the DII. I'm building a buggy that will put my old D90 to shame.

As far being worked up, I'm not. I didn't even know I was being worked up. ;)

I better see you at the Rally this year :)

Hmmm, I don't want to go back and forth with this but if this true then I'll be seeing at least more than one bogger on hard trails both here and Moab. I can't even remember when was the last time I saw a Bogger on the trail. Maybe that's the case in the EC but not here.

Unless your in goopy mud, Boggers suck. An Irok will kick it's ass any day in rock. And it's in the rock that you get the type of traction that breaks shit.

have yall considered unimog/portal axles. I would think the added ground clearance would be nice in the rocks

they have characteristics i don't like

I'll be in Vail by the end of May. Holy Cross anyone?

Not in May, too much snow this year. Might be late July/August before it opens.

Oh, and I'm in agreement on Boggers and rocks. They suck. My MTR's are better, Iroks and and Krawlers are waaayyyy better.

I meant that more in the tongue-in-cheek fashion :)

On the tire issue. I can't claim to have run either boggers or IROKs personally. But I would have to agree with Larry that I don't think I ever saw a set of Boggers on the CO trails. (However I did see a set on an otherwise stock TJ in a parking lot once,,,I think they were 31x1350,,,,must be a "Jeep thing", because I clearly did not understand,,,,)

What I have seen out here though are some 34/1050 LTBs and if they made a wider tire in that size I would buy a pair for out here. The mud I've seen out here makes that mud at CORE look like slickrock

If you change your mind about your DII axles let me know. I'm hoping to figure something out regarding this problem, hopefully w/ several of us so that, if we're threatened w/ an actual solution, perhaps all of us going in together can save some time/money. I know Scott has also expressed interest. Keep me posted. Cheers -S

what are soo bad about portal axles?

Portals mainly increase the COG of a vehicle and they usually are harder to mount to a flexy ssupension desion as they induce a lot of self rotationary force when under acceleration/decceleration of the axle shafts therein.

Note that 95% of successful rock buggies (moon buggies) run normal axles, nothing more or less, and no portals (there were a couple, but they clearly stated the disadvantages - and advantages - of the portal design)

You thinking about cutting a hole for a rear window.. I don't think you'll get a good enough view of what's behind you just out of those alpine windows.. Unless you never back up, then who cares.. Might make life easier in the rocks to be able to have a nice clear view out back.
