My state has the problem that too many people need to agree in order to accomplish anything. Amend the constitution to repeal the 2/3rds majority bullshit for taxes and budget, and things will come together.

One thing to remember is that in CA, the population that votes is old and white, the population that LIVES here is young and brown. Sometimes, just sometimes that silent majority stands up and gets to the polls, but sadly they usually don't - which is why we have some of the problems we do.

That's the best part about our nation. Nothing can be done, because nobody agrees on it.

People a long time ago figured out that humans are easily swept into foolishness and fad. They hedged their bets by making it damn near impossible to do ANYTHING at all.

It is easy to get the majority to do something stupid. It is hard to get a few hold outs who just like their titles to do much of anything. Those few indecisive bastards have been one of the few things holding us together for a long time. You don't want to live in a nation that is capable of radical change.

That's my favorite part about the government. It has been just inefficient enough to protect us from itself.

Cheers,

Kennith

CA's problem is that the people and businesses that actually have a good income are emmigrating, leaving behind a population on virtual welfare and those on low income. CA's solution? Raise taxes. Net effect? More emmigration of those with high income.

CA is insolvent and must slash programs, eliminate unions and restructure overly rich pensions. The party is over.

Oops! CA voters just spoke (again). No tax increases! Guess the government might have to (GASP) reign in spending? What a novel idea!

So Knewsome, you are saying that the white and old voters in CA shouldn't have a voice? If the young and brown won't vote, fuck 'em. If their other interests or lack there of is more important then voting, obviously what is going on around them doesn't matter to them.
It sounds to me like the VOTERS in CA have spoken, if you don't vote, you don't have a choice.
It seems to me you would make a happy Canuckastani.

...and you voted for him. Twice. Bush, that is, not Obama....

Bush got popped in Houston for selling drugs, though that was quietly hushed up. But there was no 'quieting' Hunter S. Thompson:

The first time I noticed George W Bush was when he passed out in my bathtub at the Hyatt Regency in Houston (in 1974). He was with a guy who had come to sell...Look, I'm not going to put this next sentence on the record. Let's just say that "a friend of mine" was buying cocaine. I have friends in Houston from all walks of life. Lawyers. Professional men. Bush was hanging around with this crowd of what you might call gilded coke dilettantes."

He knew who I was, at that time, because I had a reputation as a writer. I knew he was part of the Bush dynasty. But he was nothing, he offered nothing, and he promised nothing. He had no humor. He was insignificant in every way and consequently I didn't pay much attention to him. But when he passed out in my bathtub, then I noticed him. I'd been in another room, talking to the bright people. I had to have him taken away.

Yep, Bush was a coke-head too. Nothing redeaming about him in that respect either.

People like you and the assholes in Sacramento are EXACTLY why we have 2/3 to pass tax increases. If we didn't have that your taxes would be so fucking out of sight by now you'd think you were living in the UK. A lot of the "young and brown" who live here aren't even fucking legal citizens but they have their fucking hands out for everything. I hope yesterdays vote give the fuckheads in Sacramento and the rest of you liberal retards a clue that gravy train time is over with. I love it that a commission reduced their salaries 18% today too. Perhaps they will start to see what living in the real world is like - which sounds like something you should try, too.

Well said! I wonder what the tax-paying ratio is for the "old and whites" vs the "young and browns"? I think knewsom might also be surprised to find that a hell of a lot of the young & browns don't have the legal right to vote, not to mention be in this country in the first place. "2/3 majority bullshit"....oh, to be so young and blissfully ignorant....LOL

Would that be similar to the non-18% cut in salaries of top CA elected officials?
