Hello all,

Just broke down (outside autozone!) - engine wouldn't start. Cranking fine. Started up, but then stalled waiting at a light in Princeton, and had to get towed. Back home now on my driveway.

Engine light flashed, then getting P1300 along with a whole bunch of P0301, P0305, P0306, P0307, P0308 and P0300. Also sporadic flashing M+S and limp mode. All started happening after a few light water crossings during the rain last week (1 foot deep).

Did a bunch of searches and seems the likely candidate is the CkPS sensor. Would people agree with this? Any idea who sells the things? Tried the Zone but they don't stock it.

Looks like a bit of a PITA to get to under there. If anyone has any tips for changing them out or can come by, I'm in Princeton or give me a call (732) 996 4248.

Thanks, Dean

65K original plugs and cables. Done a fair bit of wet stuff in the past but been running fine until this last flood.

65K miles.

See pic. Am I on the right track here: Undo the two bolts circled B, and the clip above A, and the thing comes off? Or are those bolts just a cover to the sensor? Is there a connector inside the cover?

Cheers
Dean

I can't remember if that is just a cover or not. Just take it off. I did. You cant eff it up. there might be more under the cover. sensor will just slide out. The plug is the bear.

and yes, You just unplug at "A".

I got the thing off - that was just a cover but it was not a big deal to get it off - 1/2 hour I guess. Plug was no problem. Was all covered with pine barrens sand and shit though.

*******

Is there a way to seal this thing back on? it looks like it just screws and presses a hard plastic disk onto a hole, with no O-ring or anything. I'm tempted to just fill the cover up with silicone before I put it back on.

while your under there check your 02 plugs and clean them and if you find a way to seal your crank sensor do the same to the O2's , i get an O2 code everytime i go wading then it disappears after a day or two

I'm going to stick it on with a thin layer of silicone, and iff its all ok I'm going to smear silicone all over the back of it. For the connector clips, I have generally just packed them with grease.

would the crank sensor make the m/s lights flash? i wonder how your battery/alt are doing...

I was thinking the same thing, that and the battery cables, grounds, and hot to the starter.

If the ecm cannot tell how fast the engine is spinning, it cannot control the tranny so it enters limp mode.

UPDATE ***********************************

Well I thought it best to summarize what happened when I changed the CkPS sensor - the vehicle is fixed and the engine light has gone out of its own accord, and the vehicle appears to be working fine.

Thanks all to those who helped!

Cheers,

Dean
