Clinometer angle meter

I put one of these on for fun and I was wondering what angle should I really be watching out for? What is the break over point assuming you aren't going too fast, turning and hitting bumps etc?

How much does a lift and not having sway bars change that you think?

Oh yeah, bonus points for pictures and a story for those that went too far!

do they make them for LRs? i know jeeps have one...not sure if they're made specifically with the jeep in mind or anything?

nice...you should go out and test it and then let us know if those are right.

i wanted a clinometer like the jeep ones with a few gauges on it that could mount on top of the dash.

a clinometer measures side angle.. or if you mount on the side of the truck, i.e. over a door pillar it will measure front to back angle.. which one of those specs you posted is measuring side angle?

gil, are you referring to roll over angle? if so, there is nothing posted in those specs. i think ppl confuse it with break over which is the angle at which you will "bottom out" or get hung on. at least, im purtty sure...??

your right, and thats was what i meant.. isnt he talking about roll over angle which really isnt measurable on a standardized basis.. none of the posted specs refers to rollover angle. break over is not roll over..

You need to be careful when actually driving at any angle above about 20. Yes, our Rovers will go further, personally, I've been to 30 or a bit more. But if you are actually moving, that 20 degrees quickly becomes dangerous with the addition of inertia.

right, rollover depends on a lot of things including lift. i tried to go around some deep ruts which involved going around on a steep slope (prob 25 deg) to the side of the ruts. the drivers side tires slid into the rut anyway and i was left sitting at about 40 deg....with shit stains in my droors! finally worked up the nerve and drove out 50 teeth clenching ft (very carefully) without issue. this was a stock d1. ever since...the rollover angles dont scare me much. just take er easy....;)

also, if you start to roll...turn into the roll and give it a little gas!

Oh, I thought that break over angle was the one. My one or two near 30° experiences were pretty positive, felt secure as long as I didn't plow into a rock and bump it or something.

land rover publishes the side tilt angle at something close to 40° its in every discovery 1 owners manual I've ever seen.

You mean when people tie a rope, strap or other to a vehicle to keep it from going over? Rather than standing on sliders...etc.

Actually one person CAN save a roll over as long as you catch it quickly and the vehicle doesn't keep movement on the roll path. However a few people is much more effective and I have seen this prevent roll overs many times.
