well i think i am going to throw in the towel and get rid of my truck. Too many problems
and not worth it.

Very hard to start in cold weather. Actually won't start at all
Leaky steering pump
Leaky front brake caliper
Leaky swivels
Leaky Transmission lines
Head lights harness need to be replaced ( corroded and they don't work)
water pump is about to go

I think the worst is the starting and after searching up and down the net and this site with no sure fix I just about had it. The closest i came to the fix is a mod which replaces a chip in the ECU, the starter to a high speed one, and the lead to the starter. This is just to expensive to guess. My last attempt will be to replace that chip at 27$ and if i see an improvement i will decide if I keep it.or not.Don't get me wrong I really love this truck but i don't feel its worth the headaches. I also own an old Isuzu trooper ( 1990 ) and its half the truck my disco is but its alot more reliable.
I am starting to wonder if Land Rover is just alot of hype. They sell adventure and reliability of the past trucks but fall short in my book. Could it be you pay so much and get so many problems. Maybe a series truck is the way to go??
what about Defenders, any good?

Is there anyone out there who can restore the faith?

when was the last time you replaced your cap and rotor AND are they LR or aftermarket?

the only time my 95 gives me starting problems is when it needs a new cap and rotor... for some DAMN reason this is one place where LR OEM parts actually are worth their extra cost.

If a 95 Disco overwhelms you, walk away from the marque. A Defender won't be any easier. Maybe have a good mechanic run some tests on it instead of guessing what is wrong?

I'd hate to do the swivel seals, but everything else isn't that big of a deal to fix.

Nope. Defenders suck! You better sell me the 110 too.

Sounds like it wasn't taken care of before you got it. don't blame the Marque. they all have problems. A friend just bought a toy LC because he heard LRs leaked and couldn't be trusted. his toyota leaks and won't start about 40% of the time. my 95 leaks but has always started. if you want a non nonsense turn the key an go car get a honda civiv and blend into the crowd.

For what it's worth, I just bought a '95 D1 recently. It's been as cold as -40F in the mornings here in Minnesota already this winter, and several days when we didn't get above 0F period, and the land rover had no trouble starting. It can run a little bit rough for a few minutes when it's that cold, but it's never had trouble starting. I have no idea if the chip has even been replaced, but the previous owner never mentioned it and he seemed to know his stuff. As for the other stuff, I was already warned that the power steering likes to leak, so I figured I'd just let it go. Fluid is cheap. I haven't experienced the other problems. About the only thing semi-related is that I've heard the plugs for the headlights can gunk up/corrode and need to be cleaned and sprayed or lubed with electrical grease.

regarding the rough starts in cold weather . . . our 04 discovery is garaged when we're home but it can sound pretty rought for about half a minute in the mornings. we parked out outdoors overnight last week during our the last rain storms. it sounded rougher than normal for about three minutes. so your 95 d1 is as good as new : )
