Code set

I have new O2 sensors on the way but was hoping to get you all's opinion.

I have the following set of codes:

P0130 - O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction, Bank 1 Sensor 1

P0171 - System too lean, Bank 1

P1300 - I think it's a misfire code of some kind...

P0300 - Random multiple misfires detected

P0301, P0303, P0305 - misfire codes (note all on the odd side of the engine, no even codes have popped)

Symptoms include misfires while driving, rough idle and black soot blown out exhaust shortly after initial start up.

I checked the plugs. Odd plugs covered in dry black soot. Even plugs look as they should.

I replaced the odd, soot covered plugs with new ones and it still misfired so I'm thinking the soot covering is a symptom of the misfire and not the cause...

I have replaced the MAF, no change in codes or symptoms.

Car sat for over a year with a nearly empty fuel tank so wondered about water in the fuel, but have run almost two tanks through using 91 octane, with injector cleaner added to the last tank.

This was a 4.0 transplant into my '03 D2 using all the fuel injection and ignition equipment from the original 4.6 that was running smoothly before the transplant with no misfires, rough idle, etc... the 4.6 had a crack in the #5 cylinder wall, causing pressurization of the coolant system...

I swapped over the timing gear and chain from the 4.6 to the 4.0 and am very confident I lined it up right.

I left the 4.0 heads on and have plugged the SAI vacuum lines.

Everything ran really well for the first 100 miles or so.

Thoughts?

Stop doing anything else...swap in a new O2 sensor. I had one fail recently and had very similar codes.

If you want to do a little more diagnosis before buying an O2 sensor try swapping them side to side. If the misfires move to the other bank you've confirmed the problem. If it's the O2 be sure to buy the Bosch 15175 only. They're commonly stocked at the major parts chain stores but if you can wait a couple days Amazon seems to have the best pricing.

I tried the swapping O2 sensor trick, and while I agree it should work. When I did it, I went from 1 bad sensor to two bad sensors. Replaced both and it fixed the issue.

So, the new o2 sensors finally showed up and I found some time to install the front and rear driver side. Passenger side sensor plugs seemed to be a nightmare to get to so left them alone as I had no error codes from that side.

I have put about 200 miles on it now. It ran really well, for the first 175 miles or so. It finally threw a p0171, too lean code and doesn't feel as smooth as it should.

I have about decided I have a vacuum leak. A vacuum test I ran a couple of weeks ago indicated about 14 inches of mercury with a slight jitter.

My vacuum leak idea seem resonable?
