The oil pressure builds slowly – i.e. the light goes off in about 15 seconds when the motor has sat all night below 20 degrees Fahrenheit.

This is my wife's daily driver. When it's cold outside (below 20 F) she likes to go out and start it, letting it idle to warm up, so she can drive the kids to school in a warm car.
My position is this – With cold motor and cold oil, the weak oil pressure is harmful to an old motor. It's less harmful to run the car at moderate rpms (moderate oil pressure). Low rpms = low oil pressure, especially with thick oil. Better to build the pressure and get the oil where it's needed, than starve the nether-reaches of the motor and let it grind itself down to a nub.
Is this even worth thinking about?
I told her I'd ask you all, because if I'm full of shit on this, you'd tell me, and I'd quit bitching about the Rover running in the driveway for 10 minutes in the morning.
Thanks.
