Anyone have any connections or advise on compact tractors? I'm looking at (in no specific order) John Deere, Kubota, and Cub Cadet with quick disconnct front loader, backhoe, and 60" mower deck. 23-27hp gas or diesel. Looking for advise, experience, knowledgeable input, deals, anything.

Randy,

I frequently use a New Holland TC30 - 4wd - it's actually my neighbors, but I use it more than he does. I do the maint. and get to use it anytime -pretty good deal!

Anyway - I love this thing - 4WD with ag tires and a 3-speed Tcase. 3 cyl, 30 hp diesel. It's got plenty of power for mowing, using front end loader attachment - and even for street driving. In 4 low-low it'll push anything as well as climp anything.

The thing sips diesel - last all day on 5 gallons. Tractor only has about 100 hrs on it now, but no problems so far. I use the front end loader, 60" rake, and PTO mower deck.

I just moved and spread 50 yards of mulch and 10 of topsoil last weekend - didn't even break a sweat.

Very easy to work on to boot.

I didn't buy it, but I know my neigbor got 0% financing for 3 years and a good deal on top of that.

Randy,

Sorry - won't be at the trials - I'm going camping with my son this weekend.

If you're really interested, I'm sure I coould grab it for you test drive, etc.

Bill

PS - neighbor looked at Deere and Kubota also before getting this and said the New Holland was like 1/2 the price - and still get a "real" tractor.

Thanks again Bill, you are the 2ndRover guy to recommend New Holland today! Makes me wonder if they leak, have funny electronics, but can go anywhere! LOL

I have used a John Deere and a Kubota one before. I personaly liked the Kubota one best it had the best buckets and was easiest to use. The landscaping company i used to work at just got a new one that i need to go check out. It should be pretty cool, might be too big though and it was $30,000 i dont know how much you want to spend on it but i think that might be over your budget.

Kubota is the way to go. My dad had his for 10 years before he sold it. A few years ago we got a BX2200 and still have it and have had no problems with it. Ever though it is relatively small it gets the job done. I'm not sure if they still sell it or not new. It?s easy to use and has enough power and the 4x4 works nicely. You have the choice of a belly mover or a rear PTO and also the front end loader is easy to use. Just my opinion.

They've replaced it with the BX23, just priced that yesterday too! Integral bucket and hoe...$16k +$1800 for 60" mid- mower deck. Seems small but strong.

where i'm at right now, duh...
Go with the New Holland. We have one. It's not as big as the TC30, I believe its the next size down? My dad will know, I'll ask him more about it. I use ours all the time though. We had a huge snow storm a while back, and I used it for hours clearing driveways and streets.

Yeah nobody ever said new tractors are cheap.. My dad-inlaw just bought a JD 970 (1990 as well) for $9K and it's got low hours on it. Its a good deal considering its 4WD, front loader, bushhog mower, rear PTO and probably costed over $20k when new. Are you considering just new?
