There's been a Viair 350c under the hood of my Rover for three years. It runs a couple minutes a day to top up the air tank (small leak in the regulator in the back). I'd recommend a Viair to anyone.

ORW sells the bigger brother of that - which _really_ blows.

Costco used to sell the same stuff.

For whatever it's worth, out of many years of use of these (Costco, ORW, and HF versions), I had one failure (that was fixed at the trailside). I had a couple of Viair compressors die.

As an experiment I once took a bicycle floor pump wheeling to top up my tires for the drive home after airing down for the trail. It was kind of like a John Henry challenge- could man beat machine? I was able to reach road pressures in 12 minutes for all 4 wheels, which was slightly faster than the compressor was doing for other trucks. It wasn't a true apples-to-apples experiment because my tires on that trip were 225/75/16 while the compressor (a crappy one) was working on 265/75/16 tires. Still, it was fun to try. Definitely got my cardio up which felt good after sitting in the driver's seat for a few hours.

The power cable on superflow units is the worst thing ever. The insulator is so brittle it will crack if you bend it past 90 degrees, which is every time you put it in the bag for storage. I finally had it with mine shorting and blowing fuses every time I needed to use it and threw it in the corner of the garage. I need to rewire the whole thing.

Cheap seems to be winning over expensive.
Surprised no ARB mentions.
Compare cost to performance, and things start to lean CB.
On the other hand, I think everyone who's been on a trail ride with ARB-equipped trucks can remember an instance of a dead pump (for whatever reason).

You aren't alienating anyone. Chrome the bitches, toss some fittings at them, pick the model with the best parts (most of the time), and you've got a Viair.

Most people have great luck with them. I haven't.

Those compressors work very well, when they work. It's the same with any other compressor cranked out of that factory; Superflow, Masterflow, Viair, at least a few ARBs (they get extra heat sinks and some fancy trim), and a thousand other brands we never see here. It's a war of stickers out there.

I was going to private label a bunch myself (picking from the nicer bins on their parts shelf) and sell them, actually, because those I know that use them really enjoy the hell out of the things.

The problem was, yet again, none of mine lasted. I wasn't abusing them, either. The primary faults were similar, which leads me to the idea of either requesting some new changes or changing them myself.

I did end up buying a bunch of compressors identical to the Superflows and selling them, but I decided I'd rather do something else, and I wasn't willing to provide the warranty I normally do on a product I couldn't personally keep working.

I can still get the full Viair lineup, which is a bit better, but I was drop-shipping those. If someone wants to be a little patient while I figure things out again, and wants one of their products, send me a PM. I'll see if I can pull it off.

This is what I've been on about. Everything is not only the same nowadays, it's made by the same people.

Fuck it, though. If you want a Viair, I'll see how low I can get the price. Don't bitch if it takes a couple of weeks the first time around, though.

Cheers,

Kennith

That's because it's the same shit as anything else, but with all that fancy trim added, with giant heat sinks all over the wrong places, instead of better parts that matter.

...And they have the nerve to sell them at a premium price! Unbelievable. I'd rather have a Masterflow any day of the week.

Cheers,
