My monitor died for my computer. I'm wondering if I can hook my pc to Phillips flat screen? My pc only has the 15 pin output and my tv has all usual, s, hdmi, av's, but no 15pin input. I'm guessing I would have to get some type of conversion cable if one exists.
Does it sound doable till I get a new monitor?

Thanks Pete

vga to component or hdmi is tricky. it really depends on the pc, converter and tv playing well together. I usually end up with Power Strip (or custom X settings in linux) to get it to work. Easiest way is to get a video card with DVI-D or HDMI out. a 512mb card is about the same price as a new monitor.

Argghh! Thanks guys, my buddy was saying pretty much same thing. That sucks! I really don't have the money to replace the monitor right now. Guess Ill just start saving up.
You'd think it would be easy as just getting a new plug and voilà.

I went throogh this with my old computer. I was trying to watch skiing from europe and could only get the feed from my PC. I purchased a video card that had the correct outputs. Got it to work a few times but the resolution was lame. Plus my old PC was really slow and could hardly handle the job. Get a used monitor for cheap.

You can get a card way cheaper than that. All you need to know is whether PCI-E or something older like AGP. Newegg has one right now for 29.99, with a rebate that will bring it down to 19.99. Radeon HD 4350 with 512mb on board DDR2. It's not the best thing in the world, but it works.

Just running your computer's output to a TV doesn't take much. It all depends on what you are doing with it, and what sort of slot you have in the motherboard.

Cheers,

Kennith

considering Dell had 15" LCD monitors for $49 the other week, it's not too much more :)

It's doable but you probably wouldn't be happy with the resolution. Just buy a new monitor.

Dell.com/outlet has really good deals.
