I have been looking at getting another Discovery but the 4.6 motor problems have me a little spooked. So I started thinking about an LR3 V8. Any major known issues? Any certain ones to stay away from? Any advice would be appreciated.

Suspension bushings and differentials. My 05 was in the shop so often that I developed a great relationship with my service advisor. My advice is to get one that someone has had a ton of work done to that still has a warranty... Wait, that goes for all of these trucks!

I liked mine, but jumped at the opportunity for a range rover. I would not hesitate buying another lr3 just as long as it was not an 05.

I agree with going LR3, the last year of the DII is prob the best, but LR3 was a major leap. I have a 05 and it has been rock solid! Very few non warranty issues that I did not cause myself. They are awesome off road with decent tires, much better than my p38 in ride and comfort, but less visibility of the trail. Really will depend on the vehicle history so a good look over is a must as they can be quite variable. I love mine, and it remains my daily driver.

We sold our LR3 in Feb, miss it very much, looking to buy another one. If you dont want problems with them, just like any othere suv, get a bare bones LR3, we had only two problems with ours, coolent expansion tank, they all go out, its like $75 bucks, also our water pump went out, that was odd, I worked at a Rover sevice shop and never had to put a water pump in one except mine. The air pump goes out, you can fix that your self very easy and not to costly. They are hard to find but search for one with a rear locker. Ive seen them with well over 150,000 miles and with no major problems.

Good Luck!

The rear locker versions were most notable for blowing diffs.

I love my 06. Its a basic V8 with cold climate package. Ive only replaced brakes, front control arm bushings and an air compressor in 80k miles.
