I've got everything apart. It has a small coolant leak at the cover. Couldn't tell once I pulled it the gasket was brittle and just broke apart.
You could look for any area that’s been cleaned off. Normally if you have hot coolant making a trail across engine parts (internally) the area is clean. Like steam cleaned. Once the gasket is dry take another look at it. Once it’s dry it might show some white stains

What does the D2 do for an oil cooler?
D2 has an optional cooler external to the radiator, not an issue on those but d1 and classic have the cooler in the radiator. its not an issue with any of these but other cars with the plastic radiator tanks can have an issue and get interrmix in the cooler or heat exchangers. Sport and lr3 for example.

So looking at a diagram of the front cover I see some o rings that I'll replace while I'm there. What about the one with the spring, I'm guessing its the pressure release that has the clip holding it in. Does it have an o ring as well? I'm guessing these could be picked up at a local parts store ore are they Land Rover special?
