Coolant leak/spillage

I'm tracking down a coolant leak on my 2004 Discovery that I recently bought. Shop did a pressure test and everything came back OK. So I'm looking at the reservoir cap, it looks to be altered... here is a photo. What do you think?

looks like the entire bottom side is broken off. There are 2 o-ring seals that should go into the top of the tank and seal it.

That is what I was thinking. Looks like someone sawed it off, but why would anyone do that? $24 for a new one is worth a shot. Thanks!

I have no idea why someone would do that, unless the system was creating too much pressure, and they were try to stop it from busting hoses or something like that

Seriously, $24 for an aftermarket cap? That sounds awful. I think you can get an aftermarket cap at autozone too.

Yup, all the major parts stores have them. Its the same as 90s BMW 3-series IIRC. Just make sure it says 14 (as opposed to 20).

careful.I jist checked Autozone ,the replacement bmw cap is a 30 pounder!

Youre right about the 20psi vs 30psi though.

I would have to check my cap to be sure, but I think they are stamped with the bar measurement.
