coolant pressure, stumbling, hard starting

Everytime I read a post on DiscoWeb I say to myself "Mine is doing the same thing" I have the "too much coolant pressure" bug. I have the "stumbles at 3k rpm" bug. I have the "hard starting" thing too. As far as the coolant pressure is concerned; the truck has a new radiator, good hoses, new thermostat, new reservoir, new cap.... What's left? It's gotta be something internal. I have spent sooo much money on this Disco from new catalytic converters, a new muffler, 4 new O2 sensors, brake lines, new trans lines, new pads and rotors, new heater core, new fuel filter and tons of other things I can't recall right now. I keep thinking if I just get these little things fixed; it'll be better. I still have a laundry list of problems. The front sunroof that won't open, the hard starting, the stumbling @ anywhere from 3-4k rpms. It smells like raw gas and very rich burnt gas when I first start the engine. I have a high idle (Sometimes??) The check engine has been on since I bought it. I had it cleared out when I did the O2 sensors. It stayed off long enough for me to get the thing to be inspected. (We have emissions testing in my area). I have done Sea Foam four or five times. The display on the radio has burned out. My back windows don't roll up or down, sometimes. Sometimes they do. Just depends of how they feel. Now my right rear door can't be opened from the outside. I was glad to hear about the recall on the gas tank because for about two years, if I was to fill it past about 3/4 of a tank; gas would spew all over the ground. I've got an appointment to have the tank replaced today. I think I have ABS issues as well. I took that bulb out a couple of years ago. I was tired of seeing it and I knew it would be expensive. The brakes are working fine so I'm not too worried about it.
I am looking at this Willow Green bastard and wondering why; in spite of all the mechanical issues, I still like this thing so much. It takes me anywhere I need to go off road. I use it like a person would use a truck. I haul building materials, both on the roof and in a trailer. I just wish it didn't keep having a new problem every week.

I'll give you 500 bucks for your truck!!!

I hope your coolant pressure problem is not like mine. Run a compression test on all the cylinders. I have two only pushing 90psi, down from 120psi eariler in the week. Not real sure of the problem yet, but feel its either a cracked head, head gaskets, or dropped/cracked liner. Anyway you look at it, it's going to coast money to fix, just bite the bullet...

That's my problem. I'll bite the bullet over and over again. I guess If I keep going I'll eventually replace every part and then it will be time to start over again! I think I'm going to start looking around for a set of heads and have them rebuilt. I wonder if any other heads will bolt on since I have heard that these are so poorly designed?

I mentioned at the front of this thread that I was taking my Disco in for the tank replacement. I scheduled the replacement last week and when I got there the "Service Consultant" told me she would work me in. I'm like "work me in?" I'm scheduled. The dealership is about an hour from my house. I made the trip in the morning and expected to do it again leter in the day so I could get my rover back ASAP. I mean, I have things to pull out of the mud and rocks to climb, right? While we were there she mentioned that my Check Engine light was on. I explained that I did not have it cleared after the new catalytic converters. She made sure that I knew that they were ONLY going to perform the recall and that the rate of $112 per hour is comparable to all the "High Line" dealers. Just then, I noticed the sign behind her that let me know their position on us guys who have the last of the real rovers in the US. It read: "WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVIVCE TO ANY VEHICLE OVER 10 YEARS OLD OR WITH MORE THAN 100K MILES." Two minutes after reading that I was looking at the LR3 in the showroom and noticing that I would not feel too comfortable putting my fishing rod inside this $56,000 grocery getter much less taking it off road or attempting to carry lumber on the roof rack. This thing is only about 8" off the ground. They want people to buy this thing and think that they can go anywhere but never actually try to.
Oh yeah, They called late today and said that they didn't like the seams on the only tank they had in stock so they are ordering me another and I can pick my truck up tomorrow.
Oh well, I guess I'll just wait.

That's what makes us Rover "Enthusiasts" and not just "Owners"

That sums it up. I definitely don't feel that way about my wife's Honda CRV. Even tough the thing sips gas, has 4wd. Never gives a problem, feels just a roomy inside and costs almost nothing to maintain. The CRV is OK, But it is not my Disco. I can't wait to get it back.
