Way overkill for one day outings, heck even 2 day outings as a good Coleman does a wonderful job, and doesn't require any more electrical stuff to be thrown at the Prince of Darkness. Go upscale with the retro Stainless Steel-belted Coleman cooler!

Shop around as you can get them for $150-$180.

I don't consider a $40 plastic insulated and water-tight box overkill....and how exactly does that require electronics? I think you are talking about freezer/fridges.

I have had my fridge for a number of years now...best thing you can put in a truck.

I know its a big $$$$ at first but once you have it you will wonder how you lived without it.

I was pissed I didnt flop it over to the RRC last weekend, we had a buncha food we wanted to bring home from the cabin after a holiday weekend.

they are just so handy you wont regret getting one...also they can save you alot of money by not getting food and drink on the road at higher $$ then in bulk back home. Thats like 1 dollar savings on every soda or water.

get the fridge!!!

Damn you all--peer pressure!

UNTIL I purchase a freezer/fridge....what do you think about those small portable boxes? I would still want one to take out and haul around away from the truck. Something that doesn't require electricity!

yeah, I was at a tackle store in Orange Beach AL this past week and they had a ton of them there. The also had the Ultra Cool Coolers, I think they yeti's are nicer, but for the money I would get a UC I guess. I would just put the money towards a nice fridge/freezer if you really need one!

adding to the peer pressure....

when we sold the 110 in Brasil, the fridge went with it and after a few recent camping trips here, I finally bought another one.

now that we have it, as Musky says, it is the best thing we now take with us.

why buy something now that you may replace later?

D'oh! Saw Engel and figured you were looking at a plug in. Sorry, go for the $40!

Just received my Engel 80qt icebox yesterday. It is very well built and should do the job for what I need. I got free shipping on it and it was the same price as all the other places but without the shipping. I got it from Altrec in Wa. FWIW I'm doing my own independent testing on it now. I stuck some ice in there and I'll just see how well she keeps it cold. It is also out on the deck to make it more realistic.

Cheers,

Mike

Don't fool yourself. The fridge/freezer is a long term investment. You will no longer have to throw away food at the end of the trip because it became water logged, you can use it in the home or garage as well as the car. No more stressing about ice melting. Every last person I know that has bought one has never regretted it. Why spend 50 on plastic ice box when you can put that toward the real deal.

I really like the new ARB fridges but the good old Engle45 is hard to beat. Don't get the 35, you'll regret not having more room.

I havent seen the new ARB model, I read a couple posts where people were not happy?

I have the old ARB with the built in temp read out, its really the same as the engle in all ways other then that from what I can tell. Very different from the new ARB just looking at it.

With some dry ice and the Engel icebox I'm hoping for a similar outcome. I also plan on using it fishing.

Cheers,

Mike

When I was waffling on whether to buy a Engel or not, someone pointed out a very interesting observation;

How many used Engels do you see for sale?

Exactly. There is probably a good reason for that, i.e, no one ever lets theirs go.

the new ARB is what I just purchased to replace my Engle 45.

am very happy with it.

there are some nice features on it that I feel make it better than the 45.

as usual, good write-up on EE about it.
