the tires on my lr3 are worn down enough that I am about to get new tires. I'd like to get either the 275/65/r18 cooper stt or the Nitto terra grappler 285/60/r18, I know poeple here have the nitto's and like them for their on-road and off-road performance. But what about the cooper stt? how much will the mileage drop? will they rub at all, and how do they wear, do they make alot of noise? Because I was thinking a MT tread would be a better idea in the southeast.

I go off-road fairly often and usually in mud since most of the people i wheel with have z71's and dodge's. So i'm leaning more towards the MT rather than the AT

Have you considered the new Scorpions by Perrelli? (spelling is a mystery). They look like pretty good tires for mostly on road, with some off road capability.

these tires are garbage if you do any kind of wheeling. had a set on a jeep and they were horrible on and off road. were replaced with Bridgestones and are 200% better.

who here has the cooper stt's?

i run lots of Cooper tires on all my trucks and i LOVE them. they wear great, quiet and work well in many situations. i run Cooper STs on one truck and Durango XTRs (Cooper made off brand tire) on all my other ones.
would love to get the STTs though. the new style with bigger side lugs. very nice looking tire and they upgraded them with sipes, which is really nice. most mud tires are worthless in snow and rain, since they don't have any siping.
can't say enough about the STs. have well over 35K on them with very even wear.

I have run both the STT and the Tera Graplers. The STT are very nice, they wear well and have less road noise than the BFG KMO. The Graplers are great all around they are quite on the road and can handle Death Valley trails and lots of others. It comes down to how you drive and if you are on pvmt more than in the mud. Both tires are great!

I had STTs on my D1, they ran well, for 6 or so years when I decided to replace them . I was warned about weak sidewalls, and one did get damaged, so that became the spare. Look at my gallery for a few photos

I have 265/70 16s on my D2 and 245/70 16 on my D1. They are the Light Truck A/Ts Pirelli Scorpians. They have proven to be very good on road after a few hundred miles - actually quieter than the Michellin XPC 4X4. They dont change directions quite as quickly as the Michellins. Off road they are proving to be very good. They are also much cheaper than the Michellins. I was going to try the General Grabber AT but couldnt get them in time - same cost but one speed rating higher - same load rating.

TN-LR3, those look pretty good...I think.

Would like to see a photo of the fender wells that you trimmed.

LOL dude, with as much money as you have in accessories for your truck, how about throwing a couple Benjamin's on a digital camera?

They look nice, thanks for posting them!

It sounds like they rub a bit more than the nittos do tho. I'm still up in the air...

nwoods i didn't take them with my dads CANON EOS 10D, thats why they suck. and i'll get pics of the cutting I did right after i get the thing back from having the air suspension fixed. I went off-roadin today and the F*&king air suspension failed and i was stuck to drive my car a 1/2 mile to road with rear tires rubbing every second. This is why i want coils

but they do rub a bit more than the nitto's and if you choose these tires be prepared to find rubbing and even cutting a little to make them not rub on turns. but it was my choice of tire. and hopefully they weren't damaged when rubbing on the way back to the road

Cool, I use a 20D, love every minute I'm using it.

Prior to this suspension fault, did your truck receive the major "Service Action" that I posted in an earlier thread? If not, then you should be okay afterwards. It seems that they've got it sorted now. Let's hope.

As for wanting coils, it's funny isn't? I want air suspension, you want coils. Ultimately we both want the same thing. A truck that drives smooth on the road and has lots of ground clearance off road with great reliablity.

We've both both the smooth road, but you have the clearance and I have the reliablity.

I'm poised to spend some serious money on upgrading my suspension, but it's highly complicated due to the CV joints. Any lift I do needs to be transitional, and not in place when I hit freeway speeds. Also, it's never been done before, so I will be the experimenter, and frankly, I don't relish that role, nor can I afford it.

For you to do a lift or even coil replacement, the challenge will be the electronics. The Terrian Control is so deeply embedded into so many elements of your car, I'm not sure they will ever sort it out as an aftermarket item. Nor do I think they need to. Your core system is sound. The shocks are solid, the air compressor is being upgraded probably right now while you are in there, and the software is constantly being improved.
