Hey guys...so my lower radiator hose went out a month ago and barely got it home...had to let it sit due to going on an extended trip for work (a month!) and replaced the hose that was the culprit. I started the rover and all seemed well until I looked behind the car and saw steam coming outta the exhaust :ack: !!!! let it run for a moment and it still kept coming....if you were betting men do you think its cracked/warped head or busted gasket? it was operated for a quite few minutes before I noticed she was low on water or that it was even leaking; I noticed at a stoplight just before gettting to the apartment. Just how tough are the heads and should I worry abou the possility of having cracked part of the cylinder water jacket?

Thanks in advance,
D

I assumed you overheated?

My suggestion is to top off the coolant and keep an eye on it. My DII steams a lot this time of year due to the cold, wet weather. If it is a head, I'd say warped is more likely than cracked, but I'll let the experts way in.

Yeah...def overheated, steam was made for several minutes in 70 degree middle-of-the-day kind of weather...I can understand a little steam, but ran her for about 5 minutes with nothing but steam coming out the entire time, even when revving the engine a bit too. Roverover, I'll PM you.

UPDATE:

I seemed to overreact when I topped off the cooling system the other day...cylinders look good aka not steamed....freaking thermostat kicked it! Back to driving after I get my water pump seal and new t-stat.
