"I talked to the DMV and they are totally road legal here in NC, and I bet they'd be a beast at off roading"

Really?

lol....would he even be able to get it out of customs without all NAS modifications done by one of the "approved" outlets? I thought about emailing him and warning him because he's a local and I'm a nice guy like that...but I was worried he's just a scammer fishing and I didn't want him to have my email. Oh well. Worth a chuckle to me and I figured yall would be the only ones that also found it amusing.

Cheers, Josh

While the truck may be road legal in NC, it will not pass by EPA/DOT, therefore subjecting yourself to completely losing the vehicle and possibly federal charges.

If he says he got it through customs- that means he has the epa and dot releases in hand. It also means he provided fraudulent Uk registration doc's to Customs showing the truck to be an 84 or older not the 96 he is advertising. They/Customs just look at the Uk registration/V5, make a copy, and let you go on your way. In most states the motor vehicles dept will take the former registration and keep it.

No "NAS" modifications can be made to a 96 model to bring it into compliance. Trucks that are eligible for NAS modifications have to have an EPA approved engine which only the V8 qualifys, and would have to have left the factory as left hand drive (you cannot convert them to bring them into compliance). The only lhd V8 90's in the eligible years were made for the US market (everything made for the rest of the world was diesel by the mid 90's). A few ended up in Japan and some of the predominantly arab countries- those are eligible for import and for the most part require no or minor modification.
The way he words his ad it sounds like the truck may not be here yet "I'll have paid the customs tax". Tighten him up Chuck.

As far as parts being an issue on this side of the pond for a 300 Tdi that is totaly incorrect and 160k on a Tdi thats been maintained is not an issue like it would be with a V8. All parts are readily available from multiple sources.

wow....now thats details. I was not aware of all that Doug. Thanks. Anyway you go at it I bet it is either a scam or someone that has been given a bum steer from someone overseas that has no idea what you have to go through to get something registered. I wish him the best and wish it was easier....as I'm sure most do.

Cheers, Josh

he'll have to do something less than honorable or customs will turn it around @ the docks and send it back. Nothing like being out the purchase price plus ocean shipping x 2
