So I have already installed the 229 in my 03 DII . Now I am in break in mode for the next 500 mi. This easy driving leaves me plenty of time to think about what I am actually gaining with this cam. Does anyone actually know how much HP and ft/lbs we are gaining with this cam? I can tell a difference already, even with mellow driving but I would like to know the numbers anyway.

Every cam I've broken in has been rev the engine to 2,000rpm for 30min.

same here - and dont use synth oils until after 400 miles or so.. If I have to rebuild mine I'm going with this cam for sure.

The 500mi is the end of break in. First I held 2000 rpm for 30 min then idled for 30 min then varied the throttle every so often for another 30min. After that I changed the oil. Now 500 mi varying the throttle.

This is probably a dumb question because our trucks get such bad mileage anyways but have you noticed any decrease in mileage?

strap that bitch to the chassis dyno and do a few pulls. I have given this some thought but I would be embarrassed. off idle the truck pulls strong but quickly falls on its face to about 4200 then screams to the fuel cut.

When you installed the CAM did you have to remove the radiator? Also the front cover of course. What does the HP gain feel like? How much was the CAM did the install go smoothly. How was it?

This was a full engine rebuild swap that we did a few weekends ago.......I was also wondering if anybody had numbers they have found on the 229 cam just for curiosity sake

i put a 4.6 spec cam in my 3.9 because i needed a cam ASAP and had one lying around. extremely noticeable gain in power. i didnt notice anything special when i installed a crower in a customers rig. they work, so i can't complain though.

D&D should have the cut specs for said unit, my 87 received one when it was a 3.5. the original cam did not have much of the lobes so a new cam really did pep it up. now in the middle of much needed resto and upgrade will recive a 4.6 with a cam.
my 95 had a blown engine at time of aquisition so I installed a custom 4.6 with a crower cam... off a light I can chirp the wheels and it pull strong from 1200 rpm all the way to nearly 5800 rpm.
when the engine was dyoned it pulled close to 300hp at the fly wheel.
in reality I did not have basic numbers on which to begin, but the dyno operator seemed impressed by the resulting numbers.
you know how it is this side of the pond, if it isn't gm ford or chevy you cant find performance parts and when you can perform, the hardcore belivers have a hard time accepting.
one of the lro monthly magazines in the uk is advertising the jag engine into older rovers (D's, Classic and p38 Range and discos).
4.4 300hp normal or 4.2 500hp supercharged.
they have pictures and it looks clean... Im sure it will set you back a few bucks thou.

Why would they?

Confucius say: only gain is in other man wallet.
I know it may seem like a foreign idea but some people make performance upgrades expecting, well, an upgrade in performance.

With all the inexpensive instrumentation out there (Torque Pro and an ELM327 ODBII Bluetooth interface for example) all sorts of metrics can be collected.

And as amazing as it sounds horsepower and torque can be calculated from observed data.:D

I know, shocking isn't it.
