I have been running alot of Optimas and at times have had to charge the Optimas. I normally used an el' cheapo model.

The problem was once I had to recharge a battery (Optima) it always never seemed to hold its charge.

I did some checking and found a good article about battery chargers and the different methods at which a battery charger should operate.

I found the CTEK charger. It does not look like your ordinary charger, its a very compact model. But does it work well..

First of all once connected to the battery it sensed what type of battery i was using, and switched to the appropriate mode. It goes through a five cycle charge, with a pulse mode that really seems to have done a good job in charging the Optima.

Here is the link http://www.ctek.com/index2.asp

I will keep you posted as time goes by on how the Optima can keep a charge, again barring the fact that I may a slow short :ack:.

I got the Multi US 7000

No I am not a paid rep for CTEK, and yes I paid full price, well minus the discount. It was on sale .

How does it know what type of battery you are using? All it can detect is resistance and amperage (?). Not knocking the product (or you), just askin'....

Thanks for the info.

Sean, I bought it for 159.00 CDN it was on special, I think full retail is 189.00 CDN for the Multi US 7000

Sgaynor, I cannot answer your question I do not know How it does it, but once connected it went to the proper mode as shown by the indicator on the charger.

They might have more answers on their web site, or ask them directly.

Thanks

The 3300 is much cheaper and is perfectly compatible with deep cycle spiral type batteries too.

Cheers,

Mike
