D-I Interior Set-up

I just bought a Disco-I and i'm thinking of taking the back seat out periodically to utilize the space for sleeping instead of a tent. Naturally it slopes down towards the front seats. I figured I would need something to make the entire space level.

Has anyone done something like this that they can share pics of? I guess it would be pretty simple, but just curious on how some others may have done it.

Thanks.

agbuckle98: thanks.... I had thought of that. I was thinking of something a little more suitable. I don't know if I could sleep with all the blood rushing to my feet.

Also, thinking for storage so I would need flat space.

One thing I've been considering, and am in the process of preparing to do, is to build a shelf/storage area in the back that's the height of the seats when folded down (not folded forward though). Downside to this in your case is it counters the slope b/c the seat folded forward does not lie flat-and even if you're short like me you're not going to be stretching out all that much. Purpose in my eyes is to give someone a place to lay out during long trips and get some kind of rest.

The shelf itself would be a simple platform, open to both the front and the back and closed on the sides (jumpseats are being removed for further storage) and I would likely put carpeting on the shelf to match the truck's tan interior.

Overall vision is to get an Engel for the back left side so that the 60 portion of the seat could get folded forward but leave the 40 side as a seat with the Engel directly behind it-thus room for a somewhat comfortable single individual to catch a nap while the other person drives.

Clearly I'm still in the stages of opening up my back door, looking at it all, folding the seat forward and deciding "wow, I'm short but that's still not much room" and such...

Just figured I'd throw it out there as a way to keep your seats and make some functional space in the back for the 95% of the time we use our trucks not in expedition mode (or at least the unfortunate 95 + % I do).

Hey Ray-

I like that idea. Good thought. I may just go with a simple box of sorts that would even out the area behind the front seats with carpet as well, to even out the back area. I'd like to have it so it is removable so that I can put the back seat in when I'm not on the road and planning to catch some zzz's in the back.

I was just kidding about the sleeping up hill thing, the shelf deal works well, I built one for my FJ62 and it was great untill I hit the trails and it started bouncing all over the place. My next version was bolted to the floor where the backseat used to be, and incorporated a small lip to keep my sleeping bag and therm-a-rest from sliding off. much better now. I can't wait to do the same thing with my proposed LWB project.

what i do is lower the 60% seat down, but don't roll it up toward the front seats. then i lay one Pelican 1650 case up to the folded seat. They are the exact same height. I then can lay diagonal across the seat. i throw a thermarest pad on top to smooth out the bumps.

when i get home from work ill post a picture

Sounds like Rob's idea is a good temp version of what I was talking about...the reason why I want a shelf is to bolt it to the floor and put stuff underneath (recovery gear, spares, etc...) that I don't want rocketing around the truck-still would like to see some pics.

normally my fridge is where the missing seat is and obviously the dog guard would be gone.

I push the front seat back until i can jam my pillow against it. and i let my ankles hang over the edge of the thermorest.

nosivad_bor: thanks for the pic. That would certainly work. I'll have to try it out and see if I can stay on and not roll off. Maybe a few straps will hold me in! That would work well and utilize pelican cases that would have to be stored someplace.
