First, thank you all for contributing, my headlights work again and my rear windows go up and down, thanks to discoweb!

My Disco '95 V8 36D 14CUX has 187.000 miles on it and still going strong.

This is my first problem I could not find on the board: the shift button on the automatic shifter, which you push to get it out of park sticks in or out and is difficult to move. And when it sticks in you cannot remover the key... no other symptomps, drives and shifts good.

Any suggestions on what to do and what to do?

Thanks, Robert.

I have read/heard that is a 'c' clip INSIDE the T-handle of the shifter, and this can break, or fall off its tracks or whatever, and that will prevent you from pushing the button to move the lever, and will make your keys get stuck i believe....hope this jogs someones memory, as I have not had personal experience with it...

Perhaps I should also tell you tah this started to happen after a 25 miles of dirt road at high speed... (I love my new suspension), could that have anything to do with it?

I'd agree with the "c"-clip possibility. Get inside the t-handle of the shifter by using a knife or thin screwdriver blade to pry the knurled section off the top of the handle. You should see a c-clip holding the parts onto the shifter lever shaft. If there is no c-clip, look for it or its pieces down inside the cavity, and replace it. You can oil or grease the contacting surfaces while you're in there. Good luck.

The button can be pressed and I can shift, only pressing it is hard and when in it stays in. After shifting it back and forth a few times it pops back out. Does anybody know how the shift rod, which the button lifts, works? I studied Rave for a couple of hours, from electric to body etc not found any diuagram depicting the construction. (I cannot take a look as the car is parked a two our boat ride from our beach house... but need to drive it Tuesday, so, I do what I can researching the problem)

Yeah, open up the shifter as described above and poke around. Maybe the c-clip, or the spring mechanism. It all comes apart pretty easily and is not a complicated deal at all.

Thanks, will do that, I am still wondering what is at the other end of the lift rod... anybody who knows that?

OK, lift the little cap, and did not see anything wrong, so took it apart. The big nut under it was loose, so tighten that and a bit of wd40 and it worked like a charm

Thank you all for the advise!

Robert.

By the way, my (...) "loss of power" came from the throttle position sensor, the wires were chafed bare.... a bit of tape solved that one.
