D1 Airbox OE Snokel Remove

I would like to remove the OE snorkel on my '96 D1 airbox in preparation of installing a second battery. The snorkel portion looks as if it is a separate piece from the box. I can twist it with little movement. Does anyone know how to release it or will I need to cut it? I really would like to release it so I can put it back in the future sometime if needed. Any suggestions on installing the second battery would also be appreciated. My plan is to relocate the P/S reservoir to the side of the airbox with rivets or bolts. Thanks for your response(s).

the air horn is keyed at the bottom, so you can't twist it off. I took mine off to put a snorkel with flex hose and I could not get it off easily, so I cut it.
