Yesterday I did a trail that was about a 2.5 on a 5 scale and had to do a bypass because of open diffs. I was wheeling with toyota's and the ARB demonstration 4runner that was at the sema show. The first ledge was cross axled, but had a tight, passenger side turn too. To make matters worse, the bottom was full of mud and ice. After you make the turn, the obstacle pitched sideways to a crack at nearly 25 degrees and on a lightly muddy slope. when seeting up my Rig I am leaning more towards expedition and overland travel vs. the hardcore rock crawler. I will need to make some changes so I dont have to slink around a by pass and let the yotas go . what do you guys suggest?

The fj 80 that made the attempt after me did just that and was rewarded with a little carnage. I was able to do the waterfall after this section without a problem. I was kind of leaning to the TT setup over the ARB so I would not have to deal with compressor. I would like to maximize my interior storage so I dont have to use roof rack.

I'd mounted the ARB under the hood. It's not too noisy/annoying and having a choice in how your rig is running is worth it, if you got the $ of course. Mines been dunked tons of times and no probs so far.

Ever tried using your left foot on the brake to stop the tractionless tire from spinning as you drive with the right?

Thats gotten me through so many messes with great ease.

Great picture BTW

Yes, that day actualy and it did work for me. It did not work on the ice patches. I probably could of done a little better if I aired down abit as well.

could of gone right with carefull tire placement. Some good tires help also, what do you got now?

front - truetac, rear - detriot seems most favorlable. Do some searches.

I would be interested to know how lockers might have stopped the carnage. I have seen more problem on ice with lockers than without. One of the better wheelers in our group has ARBs and tries most everything open first and he rarely uses his lockers other than deep mud or steep inclines with shelves.

I actually did fine on the steep inclines with ledges with just the center lock and open diffs. The ice was only under one side so lockers would have helped.

Ever try driving a 97 fj-80 with stock lockers front and rear with a drivetrain twice as strong as ours? God, I wish I could sell my D1!!! I'd take my 80 over my D1 anyday.
