our next challenger is the hayden 2634.
I'm at ~65k with that Hayden 2634, waterpump is around 90k.
No issues so far. I installed it when I did the waterpump, but Ill swap in an HD Unit occasionally during the summer if we are going to be off-road when its 100°+

I do the same when temperature is near triple digits (July/August in the NYC metro area). It certainly keeps it cooler but it SCREAMS like a banshee basically all the time. As soon as the weather cools the 'standard duty' unit goes back in.

this may have been a junk waterpump all along. Less than 2 year old ac delco with the cheap stamped impeller. Barely any water flow at idle. I put a flowkooler on it along with the hayden and it is behaving as expected so far

I'm somewhat seriously considering an electric fan swap. Anyone have improved performance with their electric fan swap? I did on a 200tdi in a 110 and never regretted it.

If you do, please post the results.
I'd love to get a set of electric fans - at least, I wouldn't worry about water crossings.

The hayden and flowkooler are working great on one of them. the other one is so gunked up with crap in the block and heatercore that flushing it is about an every other day task

Going to try a real filter on it and see how that goes

it certainly flows more at idle than the delco waterpumps Ive been running based on what I saw with that sight glass filter

finished up the filter install. somehow the heater core was again clogged enough that the waterhose slowly trickled through it at first before dumping out mud water.

There isn't one.
My brother called me yesterday with that very same question.
My ballpark answer is this - buy whatever Atlantic British sells, install it, and have a $30 POS from Amazon as a backup. Or make yourself a part to lock the clutch when it gets hot (two hose clamps will do it).

The proper answer is what Jimmy said. Need to make or find a good electric fan setup.

Is there any difference in the actual fans? What pitch is best? What blade configuration and quantity (7 vs 11 blades)? Metal or plastic?

Also, the alignment within the shroud is important. The fan should be aligned with the opening of the shroud. Too far into the shroud or too far away from the shroud and vacuum efficiency is lost. The depth (or height) of the fan clutch from the thread on the water pump to the apex of the fan blade is a factor.

So what’s the verdict?

with the hayden and flowkooler on a new 4.6, factory 1998 radiator, auto transmission:

Its been 100+ the past few days. I've got a decent commute from suburbia to the industrial slums, mix of 80mph and sitting in traffic.

It does fine in the morning, no problems at all. Leaving when its at its hottest it floats around 192 to 206. If I stop and run an errand on the way home it heat soaks and has trouble getting below 200 with the AC on and climbs up to 210, which is what I consider too hot

iphone said 100F when I started
200F is on the high side of my personal preferences, but not at all excessive.
You could make an argument that a slightly higher, but rather almost constant, temperature is better than overcooling the engine yet allowing the large temperature variations.
It is an interesting argument - different goals.
For me, the lowest-possible pressure in the cooling system is a safer bet while far in the sticks - even if it goes from 170F to 205F many times in a day.
But it is not that great from the engine longevity perspective.
