My front seat works weird, I tried tilting the back down last night and it diodn't move, i tried moving it forward and it moved forward and now its even straighter up and down and even more uncomfortable. the botom slides front to back ok sometimes, and goes up and down rarely.

after some searching i figured i would try swapping switches from passenger side as a experiment, anything else to look for in there. Any of the DII ideas here work for D1's

remove the switch and take it apart, you need to stretch the springs out so the contacts work.... when you take it apart do that on a table in a tub... the springs have a ball bearing at each end and they tend to pop out and go everywhere...thus the tub to catch everything. Clean the copper contacts while you are in there, should take about 20 min. for each seat switch...and be patient....

before taking it apart, go to town with the contact cleaner and toggle the switch to and fro. Has worked well for me in the past. eventually you need to rebuild the switch which is a pain.

i tried switch from other side, and it acted the same. think i just have a tired back tilt motor. i can feel a little something when i try to move the seat, so i think the swithces are working but the seat just won't move freely. thanks anyway guys

yea, my 88 rrc was like this. i had to tear the switches apart and clean/reassemble. I had managed to get the seat so f'n far forward i couldnt even sit in it haha.

if you do go 'teardown the switch' route, do it slowly and on a surface with edges (like a cookie tray) to catch the bearing when they inevitable go everywhere. Mine did work correctly after that though.

i found if i hold the switch in the tilt back position, and repeatedly slam my back against it until my head hurt, i managed to get it tilted back into a comfortable position again and then unplugged switch to avoid future accidental forward movements.

I thought it was my 245 pound brother because my up & down for the front and back of the seat went bas when he was using it...and he does not ride in my Disco but once a year.

Anyway, 100% correct, it's the switch! I took it apart, cleaned all the contcts and I was back in business. This thread helped SO much. Thanks to all of you.

I always try the contact cleaner then a shot of lithium grease to lube everything. It works far more often than not.
