D1 Gear Shift Knob

Hi All

Trying to get the gear shift knob off to ultimately gain access to the shift solenoid....popped the plastic cover on top and removed clip...is the thing supposed to pop straight off or is it screwed on...don't want to proceed without knowing and end up screwing it up.

It should be screwed on....at least, the one I got out of a '95 D1 for my D2 was a screw on...

I know on the dII's, you need to place the shift lever in neutral, then press the button and pull up hard. it pops off.

your'e talking D1 automatic shifter right?

there is a nut in there under the clip.

Yep Auto D1...found the nut and all is good...so long shift interlock! Appreciate the replies everyone.
