Dunno if this makes sense but up here in Canada i took wifes 97 SE7 (bone stock apart from bull bar), towing a 2000lb u-haul car hauler with a 91 classic on a 1180 round trip to upstate New York with a stop over each way in Montreal and returned with a 96 D1 on the same trailer, total spent in gas was $165 CDN, given the logistics and the distance i thought it was a pretty good deal but i didnt do the calculation as the speedo on hers is in KPH and the gas is in Cdn $ but the distance was miles as i did use mapquest.

But on the other hand reading the last post if your seriously thinking that you can save fuel economy in a truck - forget it and buy a smart car the amount of mods listed alone would be a mute point even my own 87 classic is a duel fuel LPG starts on gas and then the propane kicks in but the kit installed was 1575 UK pounds double that into USD! im running a 97 4 bolt, hedmans, 2 altenators and a HEI dissy, and an ancillary heater sure it might look good when i fill it at the BBQ pump at $0.47 a litre but the moment i hit the gas all the mod's suck the economy out the window, but you know what i really dont give a hoot if it did 5 mpg! cos the propane is 110 octane and makes the thing quick, its a truck, i just use it for what its intended and save the coin by scooting about in the Toyota Ute, nobody in there right mind really considered fuel economy for the reasons of buying a Landrover unless they are into golden retrievers and paid up members of the ACLU lol

Just enjoy it for what it is = if the fuel economy is that bad then seriously get a beater for the rat run's and save the fun for the landy :) Dom

thank you everyone that contributed to the poll... now, i would love to hear fromt he few that are regularly above 16mpg. what are you doing to get this? what speeds are you running at on the freeway? synthetic or conventional oils?

thanks!

D1 with 245/75 16s I'm getting 6km/liter. so 15mpg give or take. Now I haven't taken into account speedo error. I doubt it'd make much difference when it comes to mileage in a thirsty truck though.
My 2gen 4runner got 7km/liter on stock rims so nothings really changed fuel economy wise.

I average 13.4 mpg combined hwy/city/offroad, with the majority of miles being the city category.

My truck isn't happy going fast and typically, I don't drive beyond 5mph over the limit on the hwy. Faster than that, fuel economy begins to drop. I always used Castrol GTX 10w-40 but just changed to their Syntec. With new Champion plugs, magnecores, new factory air & oil filters and all fluids changed, it's too early to tell if it will make a difference but I can't imagine it would really be noticable.

26 mpg highway and city. Aircon and speed only have a minor impact. I didn't skew the poll.
