D1 Radio Aux 3.5mm Jack

If there is anyone who can write a detailed tech article on how to install a 3.5mm jack in the D1 factory radio such as this http://home.valornet.com/splacket/IPod MP3.htm to communicate with the iPod Nano (at a minimum), I will pledge $20.00 to the tech writer, and another $10.00 to Dweb. I'm hoping others will be willing to pledge, too, to make this worth it to the person doing the article.

The article should be written very well with detailed pics and parts list.

Any takers? Any pledges?

Looked briefly thru the site, anything for a D2? Would it be easier/cheaper to replace the headunit altogether?

Looks like it goes for all head units, you have to mail them your head unit, they will install the jack, and then mail it back to you.

Are you wanting to just install a 3.5 input or are you looking for an interface?

I'm trying to avoid adding a new head unit. I've done that several times in the past but was never happy with aftermarket.

I just want a jack to plug in my iPod. Anything else it can support is a plus. Basically just looking for an Aux input, but still keep the AM/FM and fancy cassette player functional.

I know there are adapters available where I can do just this. But I don't want that. I want the 3.5mm jack on my radio face.

I would dig that as well Dan, I hate aftermarket radios as well. they always feel cheap and look crappy.

I use my iphone and computer in my truck all the time this would be a great addition to my truck.

Id throw some $ in the pot for a similar setup, I hate the look of aftermarket radios in discos and I hate hooking my sat-radio up through the tape player, and FM modulation sounds terrible...

Did you email roverville to see if they have started doing it for the d1?

Was it not in the link? Last I heard they were doing it, but due to the way the faceplate is made on the d1 radio it has to have a pigtail. You could get fancy and wire in a dash mounted jack.

And all this time I thought Dan was trying to undercut Roverville

I used to four pole double throw switch method and put the 3.5mm jack next to the fog light switch in the blank and I put the switch in the glove box. I wanted to put the jack in the faceplate but when I had it apart but I couldn't find a way to do it.

If you are interested, the wires to splice in the head unit (on the 13 wire ribbon) are as follows:
L channel iso ground - yellow wire first from the left;
CD L channel - green wire second from the left;
R channel iso ground - white wire fourth from the left; and
CD R channel - red wire third from the left.

I would double check these with an ohm meter just to make sure they are correct.

This method cost me about $20, sounds better than the cd player, and I don't have a hideous aftermarket cd player. The price was ~$15 for a switch, a few cents for the 3.5mm jack, and the cost of the wire.

I think I have my old D1 radio in storage. If I do, I'll pull it out, take it apart, and start working on a solution. I'll check tomorrow.

taping into the lines and adding dash switches is junk.

I'll throw you all a bone, but when you give up just buy the thing from roverville. The yellow thing is in your radio right now, soldered right next to some surface mount resistors. Hope you don't drink caffeine.

I agree that this is far less than ideal but a pigtail hanging out by my radio is junk as well. No switches on my dash, just the jack as shown and it is hardly noticeable.
