D1 Remote Door Lock and Lights Question

I have a 97 D1 with many miles (200K+).

I recently noticed that when I unlock my doors using the remote, the exterior lights no longer illuminate for a brief period of time. The interior lights, do however, come on.

After the doors are unlocked, if I press the unlock button again, the interior lights do not come on again. And, the exterior lights still do not illumniate.

But, the interesting thing is that when I lock the car, the exterior lights properly blink 3 times.

I know this is a small problem in the scope of Discovery problems, but I hope it might be something very easy to correct.

Any ideas?

See the post I posted about D1 Alarms.

Starting in 97, No outside flashers on dearm means low remote battery.

Chris,

Thanks for the info. I'll scrounge up a new battery and give it a whirl.

I could not find your post, however. Is it in the archives?

Got it. Thanks

BTW, my battery is original equipment. Over 8 years old.

Will I need to "reset" anything or just pop-in a new battery?

You may have to resync it with a new battery. If I remember, its just pushing the buttons while standing next to the car.

Enough Rovers for now, I'm going to bed. :)

Hopefully your remote reprogramming isn't as goofy as my '95 D1 was (single button remote). You have to work the key in the ignition, hood pin switch, and I think the door locks in a series of steps in order to get a remote to work. I think I got the instructions off the Dweb tech articles, but I don't remember. With any luck though, the two-button remotes are easier to program.

for reprogramming a remote on 96's and above dont you have to take it to the dealer? I thought that doing the open hood, lock door, turn around, click your heals thing only programs the remotes on pre 96's. am i right?? am i wrong?

my 96 didn't come with a remote so i have to open the doors old school style.

not to hijack the thread but while were on it: if i wanted a remote could i just order one up from BP? and as i guessed above would i have to take it to the dealer?

Programming on 2 button remotes has to be done with Testbook or similar.

Re-Syncing (It looses count of its rolling code) you push the buttons a few times next to the car.

Like, if your kid is fidding with your keys, pushing the buttons out of range. The car will still be programmed to it, but the rolling code will be off.

New battery works.

As for re-syncing it, I really did not make any conscious effort. I think I pushed each of the buttons one or two times and then it started working. I couldn't tell if the pusing these buttons did anything because I may have been out of range initially. 8+ years on a battery with heavy use -- I can't complain
