I just purchased a 96 D1 today and it runs hot. The p.o. wasn't much of a car guy an parked it after started to run hot. Thinking it was a thermostat switch he po changed it ( might be bad or wrong temp maybe?) There is no coolant in the oil which is a good thing. I was thinking that the radiator needs to be flushed but don't know. When the car starts to run hot I turn the heater on to the highest setting and it will drop the needle to the middle of the gauge where it should be. It also will run fine for about ten minutes and then just start to climb until it gets near the red mark. I have driven it on the freeway and had the same thing occur, it would run fine for about ten minutes and then start to get hot all over again. Any help would be great.

From my limited experience I would think its a clogged radiator or stuck thermostat.

I had a similar problem on my last Range Rover but it would only be when sitting in traffic or not moving for a long time and the fan clutch was shot but never running into the red zone just on the high side of "normal" range Running the heater also solved the issue. Once replaced it ran perfect.

Still I would say these things have a very good cooling system. We have close to 50 C or above ambient temps on a very regular basis here. But even with a shot fan and A/C on while on the move even slowly it would never overheat.

Thanks desertdude, I was thinking along the lines of a clogged radiator as well. You guys are definetly hotter there in the U.A.E. than in my lonely dessert. I'll post back up tomorrow night after I flush the radiator an change out the thermostat (2x).
