AlaskaKaz, Scottsdalerrc hit on what I did, used POR15. I ripped the entire interior out, sanded, treated with Metal Ready and painted POR15 on the entire floor up to 1 inch around all walls. Then I replaced the factory padding (just a big-ass sponge) with that rubber garage-flooring stuff, carpet back in. I don't worry about rust at least from the inside-out. On the underside, well there is such a nice coating of Rover fluids, who needs corrosion protection...

LR Harrisburg is a joke..as well as most of the staff (not all tho-i dont want to generalize). i used to work there.

Yeah they are a joke. I brought my black LWB there for the fuel tank recall about 4-5 years ago. They offered to do state inspection at the same time so I said sure. They ended up failing me for having taillight guards (the stock ones...) and not having mudflaps. Dicks.

Good Job! What did you paint your new floor pan with? I used Chassis Saver, from Magnet Paints on mine. I pulled up some carpet the other day for a quick look, the rust has not returned and it's been two years since I did the job. I didn't have to replace any metal but I removed all the seats/carpets and spent a full day going with a grinder and wire wheel. I was lucky that there were no holes. I renewed a lot of the seam sealer and put on two good coats of Chassis Saver.

It's all 12-ga. steel. It's not going anywhere for awhile. Covered everything with POR15, top & bottom. Then a liberal coating of seam sealer @ all the joints. I'll follow up with some WaxOyl aerosol once I'm done with everything down below. With all the steel I'm adding, I figure the thing will weigh in around 3 tons once racks & bumpers are fitted. :)

Ideally, I'd go for a southwestern car too.

The price was good on mine. I knew it had issues. I have plenty of steel & fabricating facilities with my business, so I figured "Why not?" My Rabbit has been rockin' 10-ga. floorpans for about 4 years now. They show no signs of going anywhere.

nice man. i had a lapse in judgement when i bought the disco, it spent the second half of its life in norther jersey so ya, it was starting to get rough.

actually pulled the driver seat last nite, cut out the carpet and padding, sanded the minor surface rust and hit with a rust converter. undercoated it this morning before leaving for work.
Ive got rubber anti-fatigue mat ill cut to size and lay in then have my hd rubber floor mat on top of that.

some day ill actually pull all the carpet out (cargo area is already treated and undercoated) and undercoat the whole thing.

I'll have to look into the anti-fatigue mat since my OEM mat is completely shot around the driver's feet. That Rover stuff is thick! Maybe a couple layers of other mat material will be needed. I'm also planning on painting on some ceramic sound-deadening paint I have from E.D. (Elemental Designs, not the other e.d.) to take out some of the noise. Then I'll be adding in a Flowmaster 70 to put some back in. Go figure.
