D1 SE7 seats, what are you guys doing?

So my 96 SE7 seats look like a sloppy bag of dicks with all the rips and cracks.

Just for curiosity sake I took it to an upholstery guy to get a quote to recover these seats (both front and rear) It came out to over $2000.00, and that was not leather just a substitute that will wear way better than the unknown crap LR used.

Needless to say I'm not paying that. I have only seen one or two seat cover options that look like they fit properly, but not for my seats. All the other options I have seen are for the Disco seats with the grab handles on the head rest. Nothing for my seat design so far.

Any products out there that don't look like an eBay Jizz cover?

$2000!!!?? Sounds like this guys didn't want to do it and priced himself right out if it. You could always buy some aftermarket seats and have some mounting brackets fabbed up. Brad from Rockstar Fab had Schram seats in his D1. They were COMFY!

I thought about doing that, I would still need to figure out what to do with the back seat disaster. They look as bad as the fronts....I really used my back seat a lot when I first got it! :D

Can I run the other style seat (with grab handles) and just get rid of all four SE7 seats? I saw one site that has all the trim for those type. They can't be any more uncomfortable than the ones I have.

Funny how many land Rover Disco drivers swear they have leather seats. That aint leather. Pleather maybe but vinyl for sure.

I have found a UK based website that had very nice looking D1 seat cover sets. Search the web if you have time.

A good condition rear bench seat can be had easily. Its the front seats, particularily the drivers, that are harder to come by in good shape. The rear seat in my DD D1 is in great shape. As is the one in my parts truck. Too bad you live so far away.

Yeah then we could go wheeling too.

I found the site I was talking about before. The Exmoor stuff looks great but I have the wrong seats. Can I just find a set of these front seats and bolt them up with new trim from Exmoor?

I don't think manual seats can be bolted in to a D1 with power seats, but I'll look at my collection tonight to verify.

Power seats seem to be more durable than the manuals, I've seen decent ones in the junkyard while all the manuals I've come across were destroyed. I suggest keep looking.

I've already been through 2 sets of fronts. The problem is the stitches are too close together and the crappy fake leather gets dry with age and they tear at the stitch.

There has got to be a way to fit the manual seat to the power rails...I hope.

Yeah I've been reading some other threads about swapping seats the other way, you are right about the 94-95 seats.

I don?t think any manual will work. I forgot about the seat back itself being electric. I have two old electric seats in my basement. I should swing by one of the salvage yards and get a beat up nasty manual seat and see if I can Frankenstein something up.

oh you would have to give up power seats if you bolted up 96+ manuals. The rails to the body/seat bracket are what I believe have the same mounting locations.

It's not a big deal. You won't be able to pretend you are Steven Hawking, but the motors won't ever jam on you either.

That's gold right there!

I'm picking up a manual seat tonight for next to nothin'. I'll post what I find when I take these bitches apart.
I wonder if my garbage man will take a rover seat when this all falls flat. My wife loves having huge, useless parts taking up space in the house!

Wow, those look great! About how long did it take to recover boths seats? Did you replace the lower seat suspension hammock as well?

Regards,
Chris D.

If it does fit you should just need a 10 mm socket for the front 2 botls and one of the bigger torx sockets for the back 2 bolts. t45, 47 something like that.

I only replaced the suspension and foam on the drivers side. I started at about 7 last night and had the seats bolted back in by 10:30.

Its a whole new seat. It reminded me of what my disco was like 10 years ago. I had to adjust the rear view mirror and the sunvisors work in the morning.

That's a good looking set of seats! Do they have that kit for the rear also? And what's up with your console lid?
