After two head gaskets, cyl no. 5 is flooded with coolant. With the head off, I'm not seeing a crack, or a point of ingress.

1. Any clues on what/where to look? I've got a machinist bar, but haven't checked flatness yet

I may be able to get my hands on a 4.6 block from wrecked 04, and considering a swap. Any reminders as to key points of using a 4.6 with 4.0, non SAI heads / transmission bolt up would be appreciated.

thanks in advance, mv

From what I have read, the difference between the 4.0 and the 4.6 is the internals and SAI, so if anything you will get a small performance boost. If it were me, and I did not need it as a DD, I would build out the 04, new cam, pin the sleeves and swap that.

I think I would rather have a 4.6 out of a GEMS P38 Range Rover. You could put the head back on with a fairly good used gasket and do a cylinder leak down test. A coolant pressure test would be hard cause you would have to put it all together.
