D2 ABS sensor fault front right

I randomly get 3 amigos light up every couple of months and the error is a bad ABS sensor front right.
Nothing special going on when the error pops up, no rough road or anything like that, last one I was backing out of my driveway. Which makes me think it's a wiring fault more than a sensor fault.

Anyway before I blow $145 on a new ABS sensor I'm thinking of cutting out the plug connection under the hood and connecting the wires and sealing it up. Anyone tried that?

Any other cheaper source for ABS sensors?

Assuming your hub isn't the issue, just cut out the connector and hard wire the sensor on the fender liner. That connection is more than likely your problem. This is also assuming your brakes aren't squeaking.

Hub is perfect, no squeaky brakes (new rotor and pads), sensor is perfect (tested), it seems to be the damn plug in the engine bay. Screw that, I'll just cut it out and connect the wires.

Ya do that. But before you do that please look at my wonky scope pattern in the cam sensor thread and tell me what you think is going on.

Hub was checked out by a shop, they said it is the cleanest bestest sexiest looking hub they have seen. Also tested the sensor with a flux capacitor nuclear reactor thingy, it produced the appropriate signals. I'm not dropping $300+ plus on a hub at the behest of someone who has not physically examined it, moving on.

How did they test your hub?
It's bad.

Probably with an oscilloscope. Replacing the hub will usually fix it, but so will doing the overlay harness. The connector is the problem 90% of the time. Some of the early D2's had issues with metal debris in the hub, but most of those have probably been fixed at this point.

That's the smartest thing I have heard on Dweb in along time. Have you any insight into my little problem in the cam sensor thread? You are one of the guys I figure might know what I'm looking at

I've never had a bad sensor, only bad hubs. Spinning a tire while the truck is on a rack with an o-scope isn't really a test.
Putting the 04 slabs in the 2000 cured all of my spurious fault problems.

How do you know it is the hub and not the sensor? A new hub includes the sensor A new sensor comes with the complete harness to the SLABS ecu which eliminates the connection on the fender liner. I just had a DII last week that had a hard fault for one of the sensors. I unplugged the sensor and plugged it back in which allowed me to clear the faults.

I've had sensors, hubs, and the connector ubuntu is talking about. Also had sensors that the o ring comes out of position after someone just replaced it. The o ring is kind of hard to get into position so it sits down in the bore. I agree with jymmie when he said the hub comes with everything so how do you know. That being said I try to sell the whole hub when I have one just to avoid problems. Cause if the light is coming on cause the hub is an intermittent failure your gonna get it back (fan mail)

Or just do both. When in doubt, new throughout!

Because I have a supply of sensors and switching them out didn't help. I've also had hubs that felt fine spinning by hand but you could see where the sensor ring was grinding on the sensor.
If I were the OP I would find a used sensor to try before I worried about hard wiring.
I would also get a later model SLABS if he has an earlier model truck.

Fixed it - the white plastic plug connector on the harness side of on the ABS wire was broken, most probably causing a bad connection. Cut both plugs off and joined the wires - no more problems since then. ABS and TC both work - tested on a dirt road and wet grass. Found out it's fun doing donuts on wet grass - until the cops arrive.
