You should really wait to get the safety devices rack. It is by far the best looking rack made for the discovery and I have seen plenty of examples that aren't rusty. My neighbor has the extremely rare SD lowlander rack on his D1 and it just great. (Not trying to give the asian bastard to much credit)

The Baja rack looks like a nasty blister sitting on the roof of a discovery. The rover racks rack looks slightly better and at least it tries to do a good copy of the SD rack.

thanks for the input. i like the design of the back 2/3 of the rack, but am not sold on the front of it. i do think i like the baja over the rover racks. oh decisions...

To say he should get the SD rack because YOU think it is the "best looking" isn't really helpful. Looks are totally subjective. The Baja rack appears to have a nice option for rooftop tent users, unlike the SD that requires cutting of the rack. What I don't like about the Baja Rack is that you have to purchase the front light bar separately. IMO it should be included in the rack. Other than that I'm not too familiar with either rack.

You'd be surprised at how many I've came across just this year.

Really? I've always searched, and came across only one that was beat to rusty shit, and the prick wanted full price for it. No thanks.

I am sure the Bajarack is strong and it is nice that you don't have to hack it up to put a RTT on top. But my Problem with the Bajarack is a lot with the design. The rack just doesn't flow well with the truck. The wind deflector on it looks like it was just thrown on top of the truck so the Bajarack could get free advertising.

Another negative about the rack is the design of the rack feet. They are spaced out to the point that the load doesn't sit right above the pillars like the SD rack. Other racks at least offset this by spreading the load out with a bar that runs along the whole gutter (i.e. Hannibal and ARB)

The mounts for the lights are included. I am glad it didnt come with lights as I am looking to get the RI LED lights...

Also I think the mounts are spaced out just fine...

I have tried to upload a photo but the forum keeps throwing an error...

This changed with the redesign this year. The feet now sit directly above the pillars just like the SD rack. They also redesigned the front of the rack so that it flows better with the front of the vehicle. I'll post some pics in a few of the updated rack.

I'll take a few pics of my rack this weekend and post them up. I don't think there are a lot of photos of the updated rack on the web right now. We're in the process of rolling out a new website for ourselves so the photos will come in handy there as well.

i have a wilderness 6" rack and the damn thing is so useful because it is flat. I think it would fit a D1 better than a D2 but i don't give a damn. i could sleep up there.

I like my Hannibal Safari rack. It's pricey and it won't make you look like you're doing the Camel Trophy but if you don't care about that, then it's strong, light, functional, flat, and won't rust. It's all powdercoated extruded aluminum or stainless steel brackets and fasteners. It works with RTT's and awnings but I don't ever intend to use a RTT as they're too small for all my people.

Iv'e had a baja rack for about 2 years know an I think it would be the best option for a NEW rack. strong enough for the top heavy discos. rated at over 600 lbs. I had Sergio, one of the owners to modify my rack for the roof top tent to go off the back so they removed the rear cross member. Very cleve! Still plenty strong.
The only problem I see with it is on a 04 or 03 discovery you need to remove the roof rails via headliner only with the lower profile rack. You can get the higher profile rack but I think it sits up a little to high but not a deal breaker. Nice guys too.
