D2 Door Lock Actuator Question

My passenger side (right side) door lock actuator quit working a month and a half ago. It was intermittent for maybe a day, then quit completely.

I have read up on some older posts. Apparently older ones can have springs replaced but the newer ones on 03s need a complete new actuator. And my research indicates that it is not a quick and easy replacement. I have been considering just living with it for the rest of the time I own the vehicle, as I usually am alone in the vehicle so it is not that inconvenient.

Then two days ago, it started working again. It is now 100 percent functional. I do not know if it is weather related, I can't figure out why it suddenly would start working when it dips below freezing.

Although it is fully functional right now, I assume that I will not be lucky enough for that to last forever. The question is what goes wrong with these actuators? If it is a bad electrical contact, maybe an occasional dousing of tuner cleaner will keep it working?
