D2 Aluminum Wheel Lug-nuts vs Spare Tire Lug-nuts...

So whats the difference - I have read that you can not interchange them. After taking off all my wheels to get new tires, i looked and them both and didn't notice a difference.

Would it be better to just use the real lug-nuts on the spare so that you have 3 extras?

That's what I do , regular lug nuts and wheel matches the stock wheels . The little lug nuts they put on steel spares are not very deep and the stud passes thru the nut . Then another nut holds that plastic hub cap . You can use the regular lug nuts to stow your spare , but can't use the spare tire lug nuts on an alloy wheel .

I remember that on my D! - But on the D2 i have an Aluminum Spare - The Nuts look the same except that the Spare ones have an outward dimple on them.

Spare lug nuts can be used on wheels lugs, but wheel lugs will break the aluminum caps on them on the spare position. Or you can cut the spare studs down and use regular lug nuts.

the difference is in the depth of the threading. the spares usually have a big dimple on them to tell them apart, at least on the three DIIs I have owned. A regular lugnut will not thread down all the way on the spare mount.

Yup my spare lugs have the dimple - But i do have one of those plates that raise the spare up for the bigger tires and it has the same size (length) lug bolts as the wheel hubs, so i should be able to just use the regular nuts.

Thanks
