That wouldn't drain the block because of the thermostat location. I would first do a drain a refill, then disconnect the small hose that goes to the expansion tank, and with the vehicle running, add coolant to the expansion tank as the water pump pushes the coolant out through the hose you disconnected.

Sorry it that sounds confusing. I would probably flush it with two to three gallons of antifreeze.

Pull the bottom radiator hose, drain into a 5gal bucket.

Fill with distilled H2O. Run engine to operating temp (with heat on). Let cool. Drain at bottom radiator hose. Repeat (1x or 2x).

You now have nearly all distilled water in your system. Add 6.5L (~1.5 gal) of coolant (straight, not diluted). That is half of the listed capacity.

You now have 1/2 the listed capacity in coolant, and somewhere less than 1/2 in water. Fill remaining amount of system (and burp) with just water. That gets you pretty darn close to 1:1 coolant:water.

You can also check the density with a hydrometer while burping to see if you need to add a little more coolant.

scott is on the right path, thats how I do/have done it previously. I absolutely hate doing it on my truck, the burping can either go incredibly smooth or be a complete clusterfuck.

The way I am saying to do it will not create any air pockets in the cooling system, and you can ensure the correct ratio of coolant to water.

What if you want to completely drain the system?

Do you have to do the block plugs or will it all force out if a leafblower is applied to the top hose?

When I had my heads off, I used my compressor to blow all the old coolant out of the block before replacing the dexcool. It took awhile to get all the air out and the system fully bled though.
