My front shock towers have about had it, the bases are flaking away. I don't why these rusted at such an accelerated rate while everything else is pretty clean. Anyway, I've come across multiple options and I'm curious what the best bang for the buck is. I only have an OME HD spring/shock setup, nothing extreme. RN sells Terrafirma as well as some other brand, I'm a bit leary of stock ones only because of how bad mine ended up and they're not cheap (twice the price of the other options). Also curious what all is required when swapping them out, It's been so long since I put the lift on so I can't remember exactly how everything is stacked up.

What's the best source for new OEM pricewise? I don't want to fool around with clean used, I'm willing to pay a little more for shiny and new. The only reason I looked at the aftermarket ones is because they appear to be half the price of OEM at least looking at RN which is not the cheapest supplier. I'll definitely waxoyl immediately to hopefully avoid the same fate of my OE ones.

Not sure why the objection to clean used but you can get a nice set of used ones for around $35 most of the time. If you don't like that just get whatever is the cheapest. They are just shock towers and you don't have a customized suspension.

You're right, I was just hesitant to buy used since these are apparently quite prone to massive corrosion and sometimes "clean" is in the eye of the beholder for parts like this. I suppose to save $100+ though used is probably the way to go.

get some decent used ones, then have them powder coated with the money you saved.

before you mount them, get some gasket material, trace the base and cut out gasket. put some sealant on both sides of the gasket and put that in between the frame and shock mount. avoiding the metal to metal contact will help keep water and debris out of there. which should help keep the corrosion down a bit.

Just get some from a parts guy in the south or none rust belt state and they should be pretty decent.

I echo the clean used D2 OEM route. I got a clean used set when I went to eyelet shocks in the front of my D1. Haven't had any rust issues.
